Spoilers for Jujutsu Kaisen chapter 212 were released earlier in the week, and since then, fans have been anxiously dissecting Yuji Itadori’s supposed usage of Sukuna’s Binding Vow. The pledge has been in existence for a significant portion of the manga’s run, but this is the first time it has been used to good use. There’s a good chance that in the near future of Jujutsu Kaisen, viewers will find out why Sukuna made this Binding Vow with Yuji. However, Sukuna deserves some blame for putting himself in this predicament.
It’s also interesting to see how Sukuna planned to torture Yuji Itadori in the future when he created the Binding Vow. Yuji and Sukuna’s Binding, as employed by Jujutsu Kaisen Gege Akutami’s abilities as a creative writer is highlighted in his/her book “Vow.” The first task for Yuji Itadori and Megumi Fushiguro in the Jujutsu Kaisen series involves battling a Special Grade Cursed Spirit. Even though they were outnumbered, the two were able to accomplish their goal. Unfortunately, this results in Yuji’s death, which sets up a meeting between Yuji and Sukuna in the latter’s head. To cure Yuji, Sukuna suggests that the two of them make a Binding Vow in which Sukuna can use their shared body anytime Yuji says a keyword for one minute. On the condition that Yuji forgets about the Binding Vow he made with him, Sukuna likewise swears not to harm anybody during that time. Soon enough, Yuji gives in, and they settle on “Extension” as the focus word for their Binding Vow.
Spoilers for Jujutsu Kaisen chapter 212 reveal that the pledge is finally put to use, and it has a shocking consequence, after going unused for most of the series’ duration. Sukuna utilises the promise to take possession of Tsumiki and Yuji’s bodies, knocking out Hana Kurusu and her Cursed Spirit Angel when it is confirmed that Tsumiki is possessed by an old sorcerer. After imbuing one of Yuji’s fingers with Cursed Energy and pulling it off, Sukuna informs Megumi that everything he does from here on out is a gamble. Next, he mocks Yuji’s lack of intelligence. Sukuna deems Yuji foolish since he didn’t make it clear that he couldn’t do any harm to himself during the minute of control. Sukuna then tackles Megumi to the ground in Jujutsu Kaisen 212, as seen in the following spoiler. Megumi’s attempt to call upon the Mahoraga Shikigami, on equal footing with Sukuna, is thwarted.
After ripping off Megumi’s finger and imbuing it with Cursed Energy, Sukuna has her eat it so he may possess her and take control of her body.
The vow’s intended method of torturing Yuji
When Yuji comes to, he discovers that his best friend, the one he had just praised for giving him meaning in life, has been possessed by Sukuna. Unfortunately, Yuji must now see this former ally as an adversary. Because Sukuna was able to channel all of the Cursed Energy that Yuji had taken from him into Megumi’s system. This alone would be enough to torture Yuji, but the Sukuna planned even more insidious tortures in their Binding Vow. Throughout Jujutsu Kaisen, Yuji’s primary drive has been a desire to aid others around him so that he is not a burden to anybody should he perish.
The request came from Yuji’s grandfather, who was unable to communicate with anyone else before his death and who died with just Yuji at his side in the hospital. When Yuji first heard about the Binding Vow, he thought it would give him new life and allow him to keep helping others by hastening Sukuna’s demise. Yuji instead discovers that Sukuna used his Binding Vow to control Megumi. As if Yuji’s inability to see the big picture wasn’t bad enough, this will almost surely result in the deaths and injuries of others, further torturing him.
