Text spoilers and raw scans for Jujutsu Kaisen Chapter 212 were published throughout the week, revealing some highly thrilling and surprising occurrences. Fans have heaped praise on this issue and on Gege Akutami, who wrote and illustrated it, for his depiction of recent events and for the evident foreshadowing he provided. However, if the rumours about Jujutsu Kaisen Chapter 212 turn out to be accurate, supporters have good reason to be worried. Unsurprisingly, the main issue is whether or not the beloved character Megumi Fushiguro has died as a result of Sukuna possessing his body. In Chapter 212 of Jujutsu Kaisen, Megumi appears to be dead, yet she is not.
Just in case you missed it, here’s a little spoiler
Spoiler alert for Jujutsu Kaisen Chapter 212 begins with a snippet of dialogue between Megumi and Tsumiki from the past. The story then jumps back to the present, when Yuji is reflecting on how far they’ve come and how smoothly things have gone so far and is grateful to Gojo and Megumi for “giving him a role.” As shown in the last moments of the previous issue, the fake Tsumiki informs Megumi that they are his sister. Incarnations of ancient sorcerers are shown to acquire current knowledge through their vessel’s brain, allowing them to exactly mimic the vessel’s actions. So “Tsumiki” has been able to remain undetected up until now, and by claiming they haven’t battled in a thousand years, they’ve proven that they are really an ancient sorcerer.
They went on to say that their first opponent will be Sukuna at an unspecified location. The fake Tsumiki purportedly takes off on wings in Chapter 212 of Jujutsu Kaisen, forcing Yuji and Angel to give pursuit. Sukuna suddenly speaks the promising phrase he made to Yuji, granting him dominion over their combined bodies. Then, after telling Megumi that the pledge gives him control of their combined body for one minute, Sukuna knocks out Hana and Angel. It becomes out that Yuji made a deal with Sukuna that he wouldn’t murder anyone during this period. Sukuna tears off Yuji’s finger after imbuing him with Cursed Energy and declaring that, from now on, everything is a gamble. He mocks Yuji’s naivete by claiming that he never made any such pledge and that he fully intends to endanger both himself and Yuji within the stipulated minute. Seeing that Megumi is trying to call upon the Shikigami Mahoraga, Sukuna grabs him and gives him the finger. When Yuji finally comes to, he finds that Sukuna has possessed Megumi’s body.
Where did Megumi go?
Without a doubt, the biggest mystery surrounding the rumoured spoilers for Jujutsu Kaisen Chapter 212 is whether or not Megumi Fushiguro is still alive. While viewers watched Sukuna and Yuji share a body, it was strongly indicated that this was only possible because Yuji happened to be a suitable vessel. Consequently, it’s possible that this won’t be the case for Megumi, resulting in a situation in which he can’t reclaim control of his own body. Megumi’s death is imminent if Sukuna is never extracted from his system. The soul of Sukuna is far more dominating and influential than Megumi’s, yet Megumi’s consciousness is likely still active. Although Megumi would be presumed dead after the events in Jujutsu Kaisen Chapter 212, this is not the case. If Sukuna were to move vessels into another body again, it is possible that Megumi’s consciousness and soul would reassume control of his body.
Megumi would therefore be technically and practically alive. Megumi is unlikely to die as Sukuna’s host because Yuji Itadori’s primary goal throughout the series is to meet her end in that role. Furthermore, Sukuna is unable to fully reincarnate into Megumi’s body since Yuji, in his role as his vessel, has not yet eaten all 20 of Sukuna’s fingers. For this reason, it’s possible that in subsequent issues, Megumi may be rescued from Sukuna and eventually reunited with Yuji. Megumi is supposedly surviving in a condition of quasi-death as a cognizant prisoner in his own body after the events of Jujutsu Kaisen Chapter 212.
