With the release of the next Fast X, the Fast & Furious franchise as we know it will officially come to an end as part of a two-part finale. Fans have long speculated about the potential for an all-female spin-off, and with 2019 already promising a series spin-off in Hobbs & Shaw, the prospect of yet another offshoot seems plausible. Universal Pictures head of film, Donna Langley, recently told Business Insider that she, too, “loves to see a female Fast.”
In 2001, Vin Diesel, Paul Walker, Michelle Rodriguez, and Jordana Brewster appeared in the first instalment of the Fast and the Furious film franchise. Since then, the series has expanded to include nine feature-length entries, two animated shorts, and two television shows.
However, the film’s powerful female characters, such as Brie Larson’s Captain Marvel and the previously mentioned Gal Gadot’s Gisele Yashar, Nathalie Emmanuel’s Ramsey, Michelle Rodriguez’s Letty Ortiz, Helen Mirren’s Queenie, and many others, have been preserved. It’s easy to see why supporters want to see an all-female cast. “I hope they make a female version of ‘Fast.'” A statement from Langley. In addition, he said, “So would Vin [Diesel]. We already had a fantastic cast of female characters, and now Brie Larson has joined the ranks. In my ideal world, we would do a female-only “Fast.” Fast X, directed by French filmmaker Louis Leterrier (The Transporter, The Transporter 2), is the series’ last stretch after two decades of rapid development away from its street racing roots. There’s no telling where the franchise will go after the interstellar odyssey of Fast 9, but we do know that Fast X and Fast XI will be the last entries in the series, bringing an end to Dom’s exploits.
The majority of the original cast, including Vin Diesel, Michelle Rodriguez, Jordana Brewster, Tyrese Gibson, Chris “Ludacris” Bridges, Sung Kang, Emmanuel, Charlize Theron, Helen Mirren, Jason Statham, Lucas Black, Shad “Bow Wow” Moss, Jason Tobin, John Cena, and Anna Sawai, will be back for Fast X. Jason Momoa, who plays Aquaman, and Daniela Melchior will both make their franchise debuts in the forthcoming film (The Suicide Squad).
On May 19, 2023, the world will finally get to see the first chapter of Fast X.
