“The Little Mermaid” Stars Halle Bailey, Who Creates Magic in the Deep Blue Sea

The first glimpse of Halle Bailey in her role as The Little Mermaid in Disney’s forthcoming live-action version was released last month. As we impatiently anticipate the film’s theatrical premiere, Disney has unveiled the film’s first poster, which features some magical undersea creatures. She tweeted, “Words can’t explain how extremely honoured I feel to portray the mermaid of my dreams,” which was a reflection of Bailey’s enthusiasm. This poster uses images seen in the trailer. Bailey is Ariel, and she is perched on a sea rock. The poster depicts Ariel looking up towards the surface of the ocean, where she hopes to one day see the world above, with a beam of light doing double duty as a beacon and a marker of her aspiration.

The poster’s use of varied shades of blue effectively conveys the undersea setting of the film and transports viewers to Ariel’s world. The way Ariel’s hair flows behind her adds to the illusion that she is swimming through the depths of the ocean. The traditional story told in The Little Mermaid will be repeated. Ariel (Javier Bardem), the youngest daughter of King Triton (Tom Hiddleston), is the focus of the film since she is so interested in human culture. As her feelings for Prince Eric (Jonah Hauer-King) develop after she rescues him from a shipwreck, she becomes desperate to find him again on the surface world.

In spite of this, Ariel soon faces opposition from King Triton and escalates her struggle with Ursula, the sea witch (Melissa McCarthy). In only the first few days after its debut, the movie’s teaser trailer has amassed 104 million views, creating a veritable whirlwind of anticipation. It has amassed almost 24.8 million views. Bailey, famous as part of the vocal duet Chole x Halle with her sister, wowed audiences with her performance of “Part of Your World” and served as a wonderful role model for young Black girls who saw themselves in her. As Bailey put locs into Ariel’s hair, she was able to do the same for herself.

Jane Goldman and David Magee wrote the script, and Rob Marshall directed the remake. There will be four new songs written by Alan Menken and Lin-Manuel Miranda in addition to the original score. Jacob Tremblay plays Flounder, Awkwafina plays Scuttle, Daveed Diggs plays Sebastian, and Noma Dumezweni plays the brand-new role of Queen Selina.
On May 26th, 2023, audiences may see Disney’s The Little Mermaid in cinemas.
