It’s hard to think that the first season of The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power will conclude next Friday, October 14, but the Prime Video series has a treat in store for fans during this year’s New York Comic Con panel: the first look at a new teaser for the season finale. The teaser not only reviews our travels to this point but also sets the stage for further revelations, such as the creation of the titular Rings of Power and the ongoing hunt for the Dark Lord Sauron. The Rings of Power is an intriguing prequel to J.R.R. Tolkien’s The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings trilogies that takes place during the fabled Second Age of Middle-earth and brings to life both beloved characters and new faces.
In this week’s episode, “The Eye,” we saw the fallout from one of the most momentous occurrences in Tolkien’s universe when the volcano once known as the Southlands became irrevocably formed into Mount Doom. Now that the orcs under Adar’s (Joseph Mawle) leadership have established themselves in the region they’ve renamed Mordor, the humans and their elf allies must assess the situation and figure out how to fight back after suffering a crushing loss. Queen Tar-Mriel (Cynthia Addai-Robinson) and Elendil (Lloyd Owen) of the Nmenóreans return to their island home to lick their wounds, while Galadriel (Morfydd Clark) gets ready to bring Halbrand (Charlie Vickers) back to Lindon to be cured by the magic of the elves.
Meanwhile, it appears that the Stranger (Daniel Weyman) is being pursued by a group of unknown individuals commanded by the Dweller (Bridie Sisson), but the new finale teaser shows that they are actually looking for Sauron. Is it possible that on that fateful day, not only one meteor fell from the sky, but several, and that among them is the Dark Lord himself? Robert Aramayo, Owain Arthur, Maxim Baldry, Nazanin Boniadi, Ismael Cruz Córdova, Charles Edwards, Trystan Gravelle, Sir Lenny Henry, Ema Horvath, Markella Kavenagh, Tyroe Muhafidin, Sophia Nomvete, Megan Richards, Dylan Smith, Leon Wadham, and Sara Zwangobani are also a part of the massive ensemble cast for. Producers Ron Ames and Christopher Newman and Executive Producers Lindsey Weber, Callum Greene, J.A. Bayona, Belén Atienza, Justin Doble, Jason Cahill, Gennifer Hutchison, Bruce Richmond, and Sharon Tal Yguado oversee the programme.
In addition to Bayona and Charlotte Brändström, the first season is directed by Wayne Che Yip, who also serves as a co-executive producer. Every Friday, Prime Video will upload a new episode of The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power.
