Cowboy up and keep an eye out for huge cracks on the property: The second season of Outer Range on Prime Video has officially been ordered. After a long period of uncertainty following its April launch on the streaming service, it has been confirmed that Josh Brolin and the company’s Abbott family will return for a second season, although under new leadership. Charles Murray, who has worked as a producer on shows including Criminal Minds, Sons of Anarchy, and the Netflix adaptation of Marvel’s Luke Cage, has replaced original creator Brian Watkins as the show’s showrunner and executive producer.
Fans can probably expect Brolin to reprise his role as Royal Abbott, the farmer who found a mysterious, massive hole in his property in rural Wyoming, only to have the discovery seriously complicate his life. No details have been released about the plot of the second season, and how it will follow up on the several shocking revelations exposed at the end of season one. The remainder of the Abbott family, played by Lili Taylor, Tom Pelphrey, Oliver Abercrombie, and Lewis Pullman, are dragged into the commotion that ensues after the discovery of the hole in Wabang, Wyoming, resulting in bar fights and weird happenings.
Even though Pullman’s character Rhett seemed to end the season as the only family member in a relatively stable position, we hope to see him trade in his flight suit for a pair of chaps again in the second season of the show, which premiered just a month before the biggest film of the year, Top Gun: Maverick made him a household name. Central parts were also played by Imogen Poots and Tamara Podemski; however, it is still uncertain whether or not any of the original cast members will return for Season 2.
However, several story threads were left untied, including what happened to Autumn (Poots’ character), who was essential in the unfolding mystery surrounding Royal and his family. Season one of Outer Range is currently available on Prime Video, but there is no word on when the show will return for a second season.
