FX has released the first promotional trailer for its forthcoming limited series, Fleishman is in Trouble. The series arrives on Hulu on November 17, and it’s based on Taffy Brodresser-New Akner’s York Times best-selling novel of the same name. Brodresser-series Akner’s stars The Social Network’s Jesse Eisenberg, Masters of Sex’s Lizzy Caplan, and Homeland’s Claire Danes. This teaser gives us a convoluted look into the lives of our three protagonists and proclaims itself to be “a narrative about everything.” In the show, Eisenberg plays a 41-year-old single man trying to reenter the dating scene after a divorce.
But things go awry at the start of his first summer of independence when his ex-girlfriend, Danes, disappears. In the preview, we get glimpses of the characters played by Caplan, Danes, and Eisenberg. Rachel, played by Danes, is an ambitious professional, and Toby, played by Eisenberg, doesn’t bat an eye when his son tries to get him to read from the book he’s more interested in perusing a dating profile. Of the three personalities and locations seen in the teaser, Caplan’s Libby is the most enigmatic; nonetheless, her bedroom and laundry-strewn bed are the most approachable. Additional cast members for the eight-part miniseries include Michael Gaston, Juani Feliz, Joy Suprano, Ralph Adriel Johnson, Brian Miskell, Christian Slater, and Josh Radnor in recurring parts.
The creative team of Little Miss Sunshine, Jonathan Dayton and Valerie Faris, are directing many episodes. Eisenberg has previously appeared on TV in smaller parts or as a guest star on shows like getting Real, The Newsroom, and Modern Family, but Fleishman is his first leading role. Having been nominated for Primetime Emmy Awards for their respective roles in Masters of Sex and Homeland, Caplan and Danes are no strangers to the small screen. As part of FX on Hulu, the debut of Fleishman is in Trouble and will take place on November 17.
