AppleTV+ has officially announced the premiere dates for some of its returning series, and the Justin Theroux–led thriller The Mosquito Coast is one of them. A second season of the programme, which was picked up after its initial airing in April 2021, will become available on streaming services on November 4. New episodes of the returning series will premiere every week from the autumn to the winter, concluding on January 6, 2023. The Mosquito Coast is based on Paul Theroux’s best-selling novel of the same name and tells the story of the Fox family after patriarch Allie Fox (Theroux), an intelligent inventor and stubborn idealist, moves his family abroad in search of a better life, in part because of his distaste for the growing capitalism in the United States.
Fox isn’t exactly a saint, though; the US government is pursuing him because of his hidden dealings with a Mexican drug gang. As a result, the whole family needs to constantly be on the lookout, both for the police and for the cartel, with whom Allie has scores to settle. AppleTV+ not only revealed the premiere date for the drama but also provided an exclusive first glimpse at the show’s fugitive co-leads, Allie and his wife Margot (Melissa George). The second season will pick up with the family’s flight from Mexico and their search for a new safe place in a refugee camp managed by one of Allie’s lifelong friends in the Guatemalan forest.
But things get worse when they get into a fight with migrants in the camp who have ties to the cartel. When the couple’s difficulties continue to escalate, they must go their own ways in an effort to get their lives back on track. In addition to Theroux and Melissa George, The Mosquito Coast also features leading performances from Logan Polish and Gabriel Bateman. Additional recurring cast members include Kimberly Elise, James LeGros, Ian Hart, and Paterson Joseph. Neil Cross and Tom Bissell are responsible for the show’s creation, development, and executive production.
Cross, Mark V. Olsen, Will Scheffer, Stefan Schwartz, Evan Katz, Rupert Wyatt, author Theroux, and series star Justin Theroux all serve as executive producers. Alan Gasmer, Peter Jaysen, and Bob Bookman are the executive producers for Veritas Entertainment Group.

The Foxes, having narrowly escaped death in Mexico, go to the heart of the Guatemalan forest to reunite with a childhood friend and her group of refugees. The Foxes’ new safe haven, unfortunately, draws them into the feud between the drug lord’s offspring. Which, depending on how it turns out, will either bring the family closer together or drive a permanent wedge between them.
