It’s official: the decadence of Ryan Murphy’s groundbreaking horror anthology series American Horror Story on FX is moving outside to the streets of New York City. As the eleventh standalone season of the horror anthology, AHS: NYC continues the series’ tradition of thrilling audiences with social criticism and stylistic plots crafted by Murphy and Brad Falchuk’s deranged minds. As is customary, the series will begin airing in the fall in the month of October, well in advance of Halloween, and the announcement is accompanied by the stunning key art for which the show is known. Season 11, which will consist of 10 episodes, has now revealed that its next chapter will be set in AHS: New York City. American Horror Story’s official Twitter posted a new piece of artwork with the text “New Season. New City. New Fears,” suggesting that the new season would have a different setting but offering no more plot details at this time.
The first two episodes, airing on FX on Wednesday, October 19, at 10 p.m. ET/PT, will delve into these brand-new phobias. There will be double episodes every Wednesday for the next four weeks. The show’s concept art is well-known for being dark and enormous in scale, with the use of garish colours and strange images to convey the underlying themes of each season. The photographs this year include a major BDSM element, which is consistent with Murphy’s prior work with latex, and are rendered in a harsh black, white, and silver colour palette.
On one billboard, a hunched-over woman wears fishnet tights, high heels, and silver studs. The second ad depicts a person with studded leather restraints and a gigantic antler spike mask, both of which are highly pagan in appearance. The narrative of Season 11 is being kept under wraps, but the cast was released over a month ago, which has only served to increase anticipation and fan speculation. In addition to Billie Lourd’s new regular role on American Horror Story, we were thrilled to witness the return of fan-favourite Zachary Quinto for the first time since Season 2.
Denis O’Hare, Sandra Bernhard, Leslie Grossman, Patti LuPone, Nico Greetham, and Isaac Powell are just some of the regulars from prior seasons who are back for more of American Horror Story. Some of the new cast members are Hollywood’s Joe Mantello, The Warriors’ Lee Aaron Rosen, Ratched’s Charlie Carver, and Russell Tovey (Being Human). Fans wait all year for the much-anticipated American Horror Story theme announcement. The Emmy-winning anthology series Murder House has shifted the landscape of television horror and the anthology format, as well as the expectations of viewers since its inception and first season in 2011.
As opposed to having the original cast return for a second season to reprise their roles and continue the story in a linear fashion, Murphy resurrects his actors as new characters each season, who either meet their untimely demise at the hands of new monstrous entities or go on to become the villains themselves. Seasons one through three took place at a haunted house in Los Angeles, a hotel in Massachusetts, and a freak show in Florida. The current renewal extends the run of American Horror Story until season 13. Besides Murphy and Falchuk, executive producers for the show include Alexis Martin Woodall, John J. Gray, Manny Coto, Jennifer Salt, and Our Lady J. from Disney’s 20th Television.
There are a total of ten seasons of American Horror Story accessible on Hulu. New episodes of AHS: NYC will premiere on FX every Wednesday at 10 p.m. ET/PT beginning October 19, and the following day on Hulu.
