According to an exclusive story from Deadline, numerous more actors have joined the cast of Kevin Costner’s next western film, Horizon. The film is being made right now by New Line Cinema. In addition to Lovecraft Country’s Abbey Lee and newcomer Wasé Chief, the film also features Tom Payne (Prodigal Son) in an unnamed role. Michael Angarano, who will also star in Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer, Tim Guinee (Vampires), Colin Cunningham (Falling Skies), and Scott Haze (Jurassic World: Dominion) have all been cast.
Angus Macfadyen (Braveheart), Douglas Smith (Big Little Lies), and Jon Beavers round out the remainder of the group (Animal Kingdom). Previously revealed cast members Sienna Miller (American Sniper), Sam Worthington (Avatar), Jamie Campbell Bowe (Stranger Things), and Luke Wilson have been joined by the newcomers (Old School). Included in the cast are Michael Rooker (Guardians of the Galaxy), Isabelle Fuhrman (Orphan), Michael Rooker (Guardians of the Galaxy), Thomas Haden Church (Spider-Man 3), Jena Malone (The Hunger Games: Catching Fire), Tatanka Means (Killers of the Flower Moon), and Ella Hunt (Dickinson). Although specifics of the future movie, such as the characters’ names and responsibilities, are yet unknown, Horizon will take place 15 years before and after the American Civil War.
In the words of Deadline, the film’s logline: “Experienced through the eyes of many, the epic journey is fraught with peril and intrigue from the constant onslaught of natural elements, to interactions with the indigenous peoples who lived on the land, and the determination and at times ruthlessness of those who sought to settle it.” Horizon is produced, directed, and written by Coster and Jon Baird. Coster won an Oscar for directing the Civil War epic Dances With Wolves.
The two-time Academy Award-winner first came to prominence in Yellowstone, a western television series that went on to generate other films and television shows. Open Range, a western he directed in 2003, received generally excellent reviews from reviewers. Horizon has the potential to be an interesting historical picture when it premieres in the near future thanks to the filmmaker’s previous experience with the genre, the potentially captivating subject, and the outstanding ensemble. Horizon is still in its early phases of creation, thus there is currently no firm release date.
