Netflix has dropped the official trailer for Mike Flanagan’s return to series creation with The Midnight Club, giving his devoted fanbase something to celebrate. The forthcoming play, which Leah Fong helped create, will include a new dark plot full of suspense and mystery. The show, which is based on Christopher Pike’s unsettling 1994 novel of the same name, promises to be as bingeable as Flanagan’s other Netflix masterpieces, The Haunting of Hill House and The Haunting of Bly Manor. Ilonka (Iman Benson), the film’s protagonist, is introduced in the trailer as a young woman with aspirations of enrolling at Stanford University.
However, after being diagnosed with thyroid cancer, the ambitious adolescent must alter her plans. Ilonka visits Brightcliffe, a home for young people with terminal illnesses, in the hopes of finding a cure or, at the very least, a better shot at life. She makes new pals there who understand her anguish. The kids have organised a support group they call the Midnight Club, where they meet together every night at midnight to share terrifying stories as a means of dealing with their disorders. However, the dread quickly escalates as ghosts and other beings from the club’s past, present, and future emerge from the shadows to torment the club’s members and bring about otherworldly happenings. Igby Rigney, William Chris Sumpter, Ruth Codd, Adia, Annarah Cymone, Aya Furukawa, Sauriyan Sapkota, and horror legend Heather Langenkamp are just some of the actors that will be joining Benson in the main cast.
Matt Biedel, Zach Gilford, Larsen Thompson, William B. Davis, Samantha Sloyan, Rahul Kohli, Patricia Drake, and Crystal Balint will all appear in future episodes. Biedel, Sloyan, Kohli, and Gilford are just a few of the performers that have already worked with Flanagan and will reunite for this series. In addition to creating the show, Flanagan and Fong also act as executive producers alongside Trevor Macy. Morgan Beggs, Axelle Carolyn, Michael Fimognari, and Viet Nguyen directed episodes of the show. While we have seen some photos and a brief clip, the official trailer released today is by far the most in-depth look at the series we have gotten thus far. Arriving on Netflix on October 7th, just in time for the scary season, we can’t wait to dive in with the residents of Brightcliffe to solve the mysteries that surround them in The Midnight Club.
