Hulu is here to remind us that there is still time for one more miniseries before the year 2022 comes to a conclusion. Streaming service Hulu has released the first teaser trailer for their new series Welcome to Chippendales, which will debut in late November. The show is set in the late 1970s and early 1980s and tells the story of the titular male strip club, which starts off as a tiny establishment but grows into a large one until everything goes horribly wrong and the individuals involved become caught up in a web of lies, corruption, and, yes, murder. The success of the strip club that made male dancers the buzz of West Los Angeles is shown as nothing short of opulence in the teaser trailer for Welcome to Chippendales.
The trailer also hints at the “Magic Mike” excitement we’re anticipating, with shirtless guys working out and performing for big crowds who can only watch and not touch. Kumail Nanjiani (The Big Sick) stars as Somen “Steve” Banerjee, a guy who emigrated from India to Playa del Rey, California. The businessman succeeds in making a dive bar into a popular hangout for partygoers and would have lived happily ever after if he hadn’t conspired to eliminate his colleagues.
The video makes clear that Banerjee’s tragedy lies in his stubborn refusal to give up the high life he has built for himself. Robert Siegel, who was nominated for an Emmy and developed the hit Hulu comedy Pam & Tommy, is also responsible for Welcome to Chippendales. Siegel and Jenni Konner (Girls) will co-executive produce, while Rajiv Joseph (Draft Day) and Mehar Sethi (The Night Of) will write episodes (Robot Chicken). Matt Shakman, who directed all episodes of the Marvel series WandaVision, is in charge of this one. Starring with Nanjiani is the likes of Murray Bartlett (Banerjee’s cutthroat and charming business colleague Nick De Noia), a breakout star from The White Lotus, Juliette Lewis (Yellowjackets), and Annaleigh Ashford (The Good Place) (B Positive).
In addition to regular cast members like Quentin Plair (Roswell, New Mexico), Robin de Jess (tick, tick… BOOM! ), Andrew Rannells (Girls5eva), Nicola Peltz Beckham (Holidate), and Dan Stevens (Breaking Bad), the show will also feature several guest stars (Beauty and the Beast). On November 11th, Hulu will release the first two episodes of Welcome to Chippendales.
