New and intriguing details about Star Wars, Pixar, and the Marvel Cinematic Universe are being unveiled at the 2022 D23 Expo. While there are numerous Disney booths on the floor, the Marvel Studio sizzle reel is providing attendees with almost a minute of unique sneak-peak insights into what’s to come. Big news for Phase 5 of the MCU, from The Marvels to the Fantastic Four, is promised in the trailer. The D23 Expo, Disney’s biennial fan convention, is expected to draw a large crowd this year. The event is a chance for fans to gather and receive a taste of as much of the magic as they can handle in one weekend, from Star Wars to the forthcoming new live-action Disney flicks.
The expo contains celebrity appearances, concerts, and, of course, announcements for the future, as well as entertaining seminars and a plethora of booths filled with special merchandise and items. Disney’s Marvel Studios presented a short sizzle reel at their booth this year to hint at the significant announcements that would be made at the convention for Marvel Cinematic Universe fans. The much-awaited sequel to Captain Marvel, The Marvels, was Marvel’s first big splash on the big screen. Brie Larson, in her role as the original Avenger Carol Danvers, was seen in a few clips.
Teyonah Parris as Monica Rambeau, aka Photon in WandaVision, Iman Vellani as Captain Marvel, and Kamala Khan as Ms. Marvel, the ultimate Avenger fangirl. The picture, which is still in the works, has been described as “full of comedic craziness.” The new animated series relaunch X-Men ’97 continues the reel, telling viewers there is still a lot more to say and do for these characters. Hopefully, D23 will give us a concrete release date for the 10 brand-new episodes of the series, which are planned to air in the summer of 2023.
The video promotes Disney+’s upcoming series What If…, which will follow X-Men. In Season 1, we saw T’Challa as Starlord, the zombie Avengers, and a whole bunch of multiversal turmoil, so Season 2 with The Watcher declaring, “I can’t wait for you to witness the brand-new worlds on the horizon…” has us very excited. The rest of the teaser reel was excruciatingly straightforward, showing only the titles over which we have fretted since their unveiling at the 2022 San Diego Comic-Con. Ear-splitting cheers greeted the announcement of Daredevil: Born Again, Captain America: New World Order, Thunderbolts, Marvel Zombies, Fantastic Four, Avengers: Kang Dynasty, Avengers: Secret Wars, and everything else from Phase 5, the Multiverse Saga. Fans, rejoice: the reel promises updates on Loki Season 2, I Am Groot, Ironheart, the Blade reboot, Spider-Man: Freshman Year, and more!
