Beanie Feldstein has been added to the cast of Ethan Coen’s next picture, which currently has no working title. The film also features Margaret Qualley and Geraldine Viswanathan in key roles. Coen’s brother Joel recently had his directorial debut with The Tragedy of Macbeth last year, thus this will be his first film without him. The Coen brothers have directed several groundbreaking films together. Ethan Coen’s new independent film was written by both him and his wife, Tricia Cooke. Filming on the project, which comes from studios’ Working Title and Focus Features, will begin later this year. As of right now, both the narrative and Feldstein’s character in Coen’s debut solo picture are being kept under wraps.
The next picture is produced by a group that includes Coen, Cooke, Robert Graf, Tim Bevan, and Eric Fellner. Feldstein, the younger sister of comedian Jonah Hill, has established herself as a major figure in the entertainment industry. While Feldstein first gained recognition for her supporting part in A24’s Lady Bird, it wasn’t until she starred in Olivia Wilde’s smash comedy Booksmart that she became a household name. Since then, the gifted actress has portrayed Monica Lewinsky on the FX anthology series American Crime Story and starred in the films How to Build a Girl and The Humans.
The role of Fanny Brice in the first Broadway production of Funny Girl received Feldstein a nomination for the Drama League Award for Distinguished Performance. Next up for the actress and vocalist is Richard Linklater’s film version of Stephen Sondheim and George Furth’s musical Merrily We Roll Along, titled simply Merrily We Roll Along. As Qualley and Viswanathan are both rising stars, it’s safe to assume that their performances in this film will be nothing short of spectacular. In addition to her roles in Once Upon a Time in Hollywood and The Leftovers on HBO, Qualley has been nominated for two Emmys (one in 2019 for Fosse/Verdon and another in 2022 for Maid).
Sanctuary, The Substance, Fred & Ginger, and Yorgos Lanthimos’ Poor Things are all slated to include Qualley in upcoming roles. In addition to his roles in Blockers (2018) and The Broken Hearts Gallery (2020), Viswanathan will soon be featured in The Beanie Bubble (2018) and Cat Person (2017). The planned directorial debut of Ethan Coen is presently lacking in details.
