Featuring Emma Roberts and Thomas Mann, the forthcoming romantic comedy About Fate will premiere this Friday, September 9, 2022, in select cinemas and on digital platforms.
The film is anticipated to contain touching and funny moments when Griffin and Margot accidentally wind up at the same wedding. When Griffin and Margot run into each other in a bar, it’s because she’s looking for a date for her sister’s wedding and he’s looking for the company after his failed proposal to his girlfriend. The movie relies heavily on stock romantic comedy plot devices including miscommunication, white lies, and comically unsuccessful attempts to maintain the pretence.
As the evening progresses, the protagonists begin to develop feelings for each other, forcing them to decide what they really want out of life and what would truly make them happy. Britt Robertson, Madelaine Petsch, Wendie Malick, Cheryl Hines, and Lewis Tan join Roberts and Mann on the cast. The American film About Fate is a reimagining of the Soviet romantic comedy classic The Irony of Fate or Enjoy Your Bath!, originally released in 1976 and now more often known by its shorter title.
Eldar Ryazanov co-wrote the script with Emil Braginsky and directed the film. Marius Vaysberg, working from a scenario by Tiffany Paulsen, is the film’s director. Roberts and Paulsen will be returning for this project; Paulsen also authored the scripts for the 2020 Netflix romantic comedy Holidate and the 2007 feature Nancy Drew, both of which starred Roberts. The producers were Marina Bespalov, Sergei Bespalov, Marius Vaysberg, Vince Newman, and Sergey Livnev. On September 9, About Fate will have its world debut both online and in select cinemas.
Synopsis
The New Year’s Eve pairing of hopeless romantics Margot (Emma Roberts) and Griffin (Thomas Mann) is fated after both of their engagement proposals fail. They embark on a fantastical and comical adventure together, each convinced that this time they’ve finally found the one they’ve been waiting for all along.
