The new psychological thriller Sympathy for the Devil, directed by Israeli filmmaker Yuval Adler, will feature Nicolas Cage and Joel Kinnaman. Luke Paradise (Lost on a Mountain in Maine) penned the picture, which has begun filming in Las Vegas. Sympathy for the Devil, produced by Hammerstone, follows a motorist (Kinnaman) who picks up a mystery passenger (Cage) one day, leading to a potentially catastrophic catastrophe.
As stated in the official synopsis, “A driver finds himself in a high-stakes game of cat and mouse after being obliged to drive a mystery guy, “The Passenger.” As their hair-raising journey continues, they begin to realise that “not everything is as it seems.” The plot hints at a high-stakes thriller, which is nothing new for the freshly cast members. The film’s co-producer, Allan Ungar, has already praised Adler’s casting choices, saying that the director has assembled the “ideal cast” and promising that the film’s “unique and gritty” vision would be a pleasure for audiences. “This is a tour of force involving two superb actors,” Ungar remarked.
Adler’s 2013 film Bethlehem is his most well-known directorial effort; it was nominated for and won several accolades at various festivals and competitions. The Operative (2019) and The Secrets We Keep (2020) are two more thrillers he directed. On the other hand, Cage’s name is no stranger to recognition; he recently participated in the critically acclaimed picture Pig.
Actor to also feature in A24 comedy Dream Scenario, which will be produced by Ari Aster. Also, Kinnaman has a long list of impressive acting credentials, including parts in critically acclaimed films like The Suicide Squad, House of Cards, and The Killing. He also has upcoming roles in John Woo’s action film Silent Night and as the lead in Apple TV+’s For All Mankind. Sympathy for the Devil has an impressive cast and an intriguing idea and title, so while specifics are being kept under wraps for the time being, we can be assured that we will have a wonderful time being scared.
Sympathy for the Devil, whose worldwide sales are being handled by Capstone Global, will likely make its debut at the 2017 Toronto International Film Festival.
