On October 11, A24 will release the Blu-ray and DVD versions of Bodies Bodies Bodies, so you can bring the carnage into your own house. After a successful debut in theatres in early August, the Halina Reijn–directed black comedy is now available to audiences at home. Ross Bonaime called it A24’s “most perceptive, caustic, and just hilarious” delve into “Gen Z society thus far” and praised the film’s “very gifted ensemble” and script by Pulitzer Prize candidate Sarah DeLappe. Set during a cyclone, the tale of Bodies Bodies Bodies is a sarcastic and astute whodunit that follows a group of twentysomethings who are trapped in a remote estate. Sophie (Amandla Stenberg) is bringing her new lover Bee (Maria Bakalova) to meet her intimidating group of pals full of social media influencers. Bee, at first shy and reticent among her girlfriend’s group of friends, eventually opens up to them when they all go on an excessive binge of drugs and drink out of a shared fear of being left out.
The murder mystery game “Bodies Bodies Bodies” is proposed, and immediately everyone agrees to participate. As one person proceeds to take out their “friends” one by one, the bloody spectacle that began as a joyful party game gradually turns into a nightmare. The gang must race against the murderer’s next action to determine the perpetrator’s identity.
Aside from Stenberg and Bakalova, Myha’la Herrold (Industry), Chase Sui Wonders (Generation), Rachel Sennott (Shiva Baby), Lee Pace (The Hobbit trilogy), and Pete Davidson (SNL) all feature in Bodies Bodies Bodies (Saturday Night Live). A24’s year of critically acclaimed and fan-favourite films continued with the addition of Bodies Bodies Bodies. The business hit paydirt with the spring release of their action comedy, Everything, Everywhere, All at Once.
A first for A24, the multi-verse-bending film starring Michelle Yeoh and directed by Daniel Kwan and Daniel Scheinert (the Daniels) soon surpassed the $100 million mark at the international box office. This year, the studio’s roster, which includes Marcel the Shell With Shoes On, The Sky is Everywhere, and After Yang, has enjoyed a lot of popularity across genres. Bodies Bodies Bodies will be available on Blu-ray and DVD on October 11, just in time for the scary season.
