Fans have been eagerly anticipating John Krasinski’s next film since the release of A Quiet Place and its sequel. Production on his next film, IF, has officially commenced, bringing us one step closer to seeing it. On Instagram, Krasinski broke the news. Krasinski’s last two features, both horror pictures, mark a departure for the filmmaker, who will next tackle the family-friendly IF. We don’t know anything about the film’s narrative at this time. While it has been said that the film is “based on an original notion of Krasinski’s about a child’s quest to find their creativity.” It’s been suggested that comedic and fantastical elements are vital to its DNA.
Krasinski’s article, however, does not reveal a great deal about the mysterious film. In the post, the film’s slate can be seen on what seems to be a picnic table in a park. The caption, which says “Beautiful day to launch a movie! #IF,” gives us no hints either. However, there is a fascinating insight provided by the image. The slate gives Janusz Kaminski, a cinematographer who has won two Oscars, the credit for directing the photography, thus confirming that he would be involved with the picture.
Kamiski is Steven Spielberg’s go-to cinematographer; they most recently collaborated on West Side Story. Krasinski has written and directed five previous feature-length films, with IF being number five. Krasinski is best known as a performer in the popular office comedy The Office for nine seasons, but he has also established himself as a filmmaker in recent years. A Quiet Place and its sequel both received critical praise under his direction, and he received several accolades for his work.
Other works of his include the romantic comedy The Hollars & the comedy Brief Interviews with Hideous Men, as well as various episodes of The Office. Films like A Quiet Place and Brief Interviews with Hideous Men were written by Krasinki in addition to his directing them. He did, however, pen the screenplay for the Matt Damon movie Promised Land. It stars Steve Carell, Ryan Reynolds, Phoebe Waller-Bridge, Bobby Moynihan, Fiona Shaw, Louis Gossett Jr., Alan Kim, and Cailey Fleming. As part of his production firm, Sunday Night, Krasinski will team up with Allyson Seeger and Andrew Form to produce the film. Reynolds’s production business, Maximum Effort, will also be involved in the film as a producer. George Dewey and Alexa Zinz Ginsburg will be the film’s executive producers.
On May 24th, 2024, IF will be released in cinemas.
