Cyberpunk: Edgerunners is a forthcoming anime series on Netflix from the legendary Studio Trigger, and just weeks before its premiere, the streaming service published a brand-new, NSFW teaser for the show. In the first few seconds of the new teaser, the main protagonists David and Lucy explain David’s fantasy to each other before Lucy offers to show David something. Lucy starts off with a countdown, and then the trailer cuts to a montage of Night City’s many locales, replete with the murders, sex, and high-octane violence that have come to define Studio Trigger’s dystopian future films.
There are three pauses in the action in the trailer when David hears someone talking to him. “There is no middle ground; you either go insane or you die.” After a graphic depiction of the invasive procedure required to implant Cyberware, the protagonist utters this statement. Lucy utters the other quote, as she and David are seen chillaxing on the Moon. “How you live is not how you get famous in the Cyberpunk subculture. How you pass away will be what others remember most about you.” We see David gasping for oxygen as he comes to after his Braindance, and the man watching over him says, “Psycho, isn’t it?”
Cyberpunk: Edgerunners, an animated series produced by CD Projekt RED (the developers of the video game Cyberpunk 2077) and animated by Studio Trigger, follows the adventures of David, the game’s protagonist, as he works as an Edgerunner in the dystopian megacity of Night City. The show, like the game, is set in the same Cyberpunk universe created by Mike Pondsmith. The show’s showrunner and executive producer is CD Projekt’s Rafa Jaki (The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, Cyberpunk 2077). The show’s producers are Satoru Homma, Bartosz Sztybor, and Saya Elder. Gurren Lagann and Kill la Kill director Hiroyuki Imaishi are at the helm, and he’s accompanied by Kill la Kill art director Hiromi Wakabayashi.
The series is based on a story written by Yoshiki Usa (GRIDMAN UNIVERSE series, Promare) and Masahiko Otsuka (Star Wars: Visions ‘The Elder’), with character designer and animation director Yoh Yoshinari (Little Witch Academia, BNA: Brand New Animal) at the helm. Akira Yamaoka, the composer of the Silent Hill series, is a legend in his own right. Beginning September 13, Cyberpunk: Edgerunners will debut on Netflix worldwide.
description of the next 10-episode series that has been officially announced. A gifted but reckless slum youth in a dystopian society rife with corruption and cybernetic implants aspires to make a name for himself as an illegal mercenary.
