The science fiction series Orphan Black ended in 2017, but it wasn’t the end of the world’s tale. As of today, it was revealed that Keeley Hawes, who has been nominated for three BAFTAs, will be starring in the upcoming AMC sequel, Orphan Black: Echoes. Hawes and Krysten Ritter will reprise their roles in the upcoming 2023 TV series. Orphan Black, the original series, started in 2013 and ran for five seasons, telling the story of a young woman who becomes embroiled in a conspiracy after learning that she is one of many clones located all over the world. Although the specific storyline of Orphan Black: Echoes is presently being kept under wraps, we do know that it will take place in the not-too-distant future and will centre on a group of women whose lives become entangled as the mystery of their identities unfolds.
The scientist portrayed by Hawes “finds herself at conflict with her own moral code when circumstances compel her to make an inconceivable option.” There have been three separate BAFTA nominations for Hawes. Her role in the popular series Bodyguard brought her the greatest attention, but she also played in the highly regarded British series Line of Duty. Besides Rebecca and Misbehavior, she has been in the TV programmes Mrs Wilson, Ashes to Ashes, It’s A Sin and The Midwich Cuckoos. Stonehouse, a drama starring her and her husband, Succession’s Matthew Macfadyen, will soon be released.
Amanda Fix and Avan Jogia have also been confirmed for the 10-episode series with Hawes and Ritter. Anna Fishko is responsible for developing Orphan Black: Echoes and will also act as the show’s writer, showrunner, and executive producer. Fishko’s resume includes composing and producing for shows including Tyrant on FX, Fear the Walking Dead on AMC, and Pieces of Her on Netflix. John Fawcett, who co-created the first series, will also be involved in the new one, both as an executive producer and a director. Seventeen episodes of Orphan Black were directed by him, and he has also directed episodes of The Man in the High Castle and Rookie Blue.
David Fortier, Ivan Schneeberg, Katie O’Connell Marsh, Nick Nantell, and Kerry Appleyard are also executive producers of Orphan Black: Echoes. A launch date for Orphan Black: Echoes has not yet been set, although it will air on AMC and AMC+ sometime in 2023.
