Season 4 of the cancelled NBC show Manifest has found a new home on the streaming service Netflix. The announcement was made on what had been designated “828 Day” for the show. Exactly one year later, in November of 2018, Netflix unveiled the Season 4 poster and teaser video, confirming the show’s comeback. The new poster’s slogan, “Make the last link,” restates the series’ central theme that everything is interconnected. The primary picture itself depicts a hand reaching out of a brightly lit aircraft window. It’s still a mysterious picture, but it’s one that people will recognise.
Cal, who had a closer relationship with the Callings than others, was frequently depicted staring into a similar light during the first three seasons. What exactly is behind the light is still a mystery. Given the show’s penchant for the adage “It’s all related,” though, it’s safe to anticipate that this radiance will play an even larger role next season. The teaser, like the poster, features both returning elements and all new material from Season 4. The story begins on November 4, 2018, five and a half years after the disastrous flight that brought back Flight 828 passengers.
The teaser, along with a dramatic score and fast cuts of events, teases that “something’s coming” while also raising expectations for the high stakes and suspense to be found in the upcoming season. If the last three seasons are any indication, whatever it is will take up a significant portion of the season and won’t go peacefully into the night. According to the teaser, “divine consciousness” (or some other kind of divine force) will also play a significant role in the film. Season 4 will begin two years after Season 3, which had a frenzy of events in its last minutes, including the reappearance of Cal, who is now the same age as his twin Olive, and the murder of Grace.
Season 2 opens with Ben (Josh Dallas) still reeling after the loss of Grace and the disappearance of his youngest daughter Eden. Michaela (Melissa Roxburgh) is now the lone leader of the lifeboat as he goes in search of Eden. But now that the government is paying closer attention to the strange events involving the 828 passengers, she finds it difficult to continue in her job as a watchdog. Meanwhile, an unknown new passenger boards the plane with a box that may contain the answers the others had been looking for all along. Captain Daly and his jet made a brief appearance in the season three finale.
Though nothing else has been said about him, his activities have set up certain plotlines for Season 4. Jeff Rake founded, ran, and was an executive producer for Manifest. Producers Jack Rapke, Jackie Levine, and Len Goldstein. J.R. Ramirez, Parveen Kaur, Luna Blaise, Holly Taylor, Ty Doran, Daryl Edwards, and Matt Long all feature in the cast. Starting on November 4, the first episode of Season 4 of Manifest will be available on Netflix.
