Netflix has released the first official photos and trailer for their next action thriller, Lou. The film, directed by Anna Foerster, will premiere on Netflix on September 23, 2022.
Emmy Award candidate Jurnee Smollett and Academy Award winner Allison Janney feature in the film Lou, with Janney playing a part very different from her previous ones. She’ll be portraying Lou, the protagonist, a lady who’s striving to escape her violent background.
Smollett’s character, a distraught mother, interrupts her routine by pleading with her to find and rescue her abducted daughter. The two embark on a rescue mission that might mean life or death, testing their limits to the limit and discovering stunning facts about themselves along the way. Janney, who did many of her own stunts in the next film, trained with fight choreographer Daniel Bernhardt at 87Eleven, the same place where Charlize Theron and Halle Berry prepared for their respective roles in Atomic Blonde and John Wick, respectively. Lou also features Logan Marshall-Green, Ridley Asha Bateman, and Matt Craven in addition to Janney and Smollett.
The female-dominated directing crew and the acclaimed ensemble make this action thriller stand out from the crowd. Anna Foerster, the film’s director, has worked extensively as a director of photography, helming films including White House Down. She has worked extensively with Roland Emmerich (Moonfall) and directed her first feature picture, Underworld: Blood Wars, in 2016. Both Outlander (on Starz) and Criminal Minds (on CBS) have had many episodes she directed. Screenplay by Maggie Cohn and Jack Stanley, based on an original tale by Cohn, adapted by Foerster. J.J. Abrams’s Bad Robot production company, together with Hannah Minghella and Jon Cohen, produced the picture.
Janney and Smollett, together with Braden Aftergood, Brendan Ferguson, Cory Bennett Lewis, and Lindsey Weber, serve as the film’s executive producers. The September 23rd release date for Lou on Netflix has been established.
