We can always count on director George Miller to make a bold move that changes everything. This time, the Australian director said he was altering the life of Quaden Bayles, a little kid who became famous for a tragic reason: in 2020, the youngster was pushed to his limit by persistent bullying at his school, and he broke down in tears as his mother videotaped him while pleading for assistance. Australians were so shaken by the incident that they began demanding better conditions for their children’s schools, and numerous celebrities, including Miller, came out to Quaden to offer their support. In Three Thousand Years of Longing, a drama starring Idris Elba and Tilda Swinton, Miller invited Quaden, who was born with achondroplasia (the most prevalent form of dwarfism), to make an appearance.
The film will have its world premiere on Friday. But the filmmaker said in an interview with The Sydney Morning Herald that the fantasy is just getting started. After seeing Quayden in action, he was so impressed that he gave the 11-year-old a tiny part in the prequel to Mad Max: Fury Road, titled Furiosa. “It was wonderful for us and it was good for him,” the director said. One of the most anticipated films of 2024 is Furiosa. The plot of the upcoming science fiction action-adventure film centres on Imperator Furiosa, a pivotal figure in the plot of the 2015 film Mad Max: Fury Road and, in some ways, the film’s true protagonist.
Anya Taylor-Joy (The Queen’s Gambit) will play the younger version of the role originated by Charlize Theron. Production on the mega-budget movie began in June of 2017. The production of Mad Max was a pivotal moment for Miller personally and professionally. Before making Mad Max: Fury Road, a successor to the late 1970s blockbuster starring Mel Gibson, the Australian filmmaker spent almost fifteen years making family pictures including Babe: Pig in the City and Happy Feet. Miller won six Oscars for his groundbreaking picture, which was immediately hailed as a masterpiece when he revisited the project.
Furiosa, like Fury Road, has been in the works for quite some time, and its release date, about a decade after the record-breaking predecessor, is rapidly approaching. Taylor-Joy leads a group that also includes Chris Hemsworth (Thor: Love and Thunder), Tom Burke (Mank), Angus Sampson (Our Flag Means Death), and Nathan Jones (Mortal Kombat). Miller and Nick Lathouris, who made his feature picture writing debut with Fury Road, wrote the screenplay together. Although Warner Bros. has not officially set a release date for Furiosa, the film is expected to be in theatres sometime in 2024.
Furiosa, a little girl, was kidnapped from the Green Place of Many Mothers when the world ended and was taken by a massive Biker Horde commanded by the Warlord Dementus. They are sweeping across the Wasteland when they stumble discover the Citadel, ruled over by the Immortal Joe. While the two Tyrants fight for control, Furiosa faces several challenges in her quest to return home.
