The world over, fans of Star Trek are celebrating. In Season 2 of Strange New Worlds, we get our first look at the crossover between Star Trek: Lower Decks and Star Trek: Strange New Worlds. Ensigns Beckett Mariner (Tawny Newsome) and Bradward Boimer (Jack Quaid) will be brought to life for one episode as part of the crossover. And you guessed it, we nailed it: Bradward. Considering the ensigns are from a far different age than Captain Pike (Anson Mount) and his crew, the specifics of how Mariner and Boimler end themselves separated from each other remain unclear. While he couldn’t tell too much about the impending second season of Strange New World, Quaid did offer some tidbits with EW and tease a special episode of the upcoming season of Lower Decks.
We do know that Quaid was allowed to don the outfit. Finally getting to wear the iconic Starfleet uniform is something he writes about here: “I have a really soft spot in my heart for [Boimler]. I had so much fun playing him because he is one of my favourite characters, and I got to dress up like him and dye my hair purple. The first few times I was fitted for the uniform and purple hair, I was completely taken aback by how fantastic I looked. The best part was studying the show and incorporating some of the artist’s animation choices for Boimler’s movements and expressions.”
Additionally, Quaid hinted about potential chemistry between his character and Ethan Peck’s Spock. To quote what he has to say: “My friendship with Ethan Peck is one for the record books. We’ve taken to calling it “Spoimler,” after Spock and Boimler. It’s fantastic, and everyone in the cast is very nice and chill. To sum it up, we had a great time working with Jonathan Frakes as our director. And at this point, what could possibly be better?”
Furthermore, that’s not all.
He also shares some interesting news regarding an upcoming episode of Lower Decks from this season, in addition to his thoughts on the next episode of Strange New Worlds. “We get to tour the station, go down the boardwalk, and run into some friends. I’m thrilled that the audience will finally get to see it, as we first hinted at it far back in the first season when a spacecraft was seen moored at Deep Space Nine. Fans had a fit because it occurred in a flashback, but I think it will make a lot of people who like Deep Space Nine very, very pleased.” You can watch Star Trek: Lower Decks and Star Trek: Strange New Worlds on Paramount+.
