The new love drama on STARZ promises to be sizzling hot, as seen by the teaser trailer. A history of the events preceding Pierre Choderlos de Laclos’s classic novel, Les Liaisons Dangereuses, published in 1782. The network dropped the first teaser and stated that the lustful romance would premiere on November 6 with new episodes airing every Sunday. If you want to watch your shows online, each new episode will be available on the STARZ app every Sunday at midnight. The trailer takes viewers back to the 18th century and introduces them to key characters including Camille (Alice Englert) and Valmont (Nicholas Denton).
The two of them had swiftly developed a fiery passion in their connection. However, the love games between Camille and Valmont only get darker and more evil as she strives to rise in the social ranks after being offered a place to stay by the Marquise de Merteuil (Lesley Manville). Along with the teaser and the announcement of the release date, the production also released a series of images of the principal characters dressed authentically for the time period. Camille’s best friend and ally Victoire (Kosar Ali) and noblewoman Jacqueline de Montrachet are shown throughout the images, as are the characters of Englert, Denton, and Manville (Carice Van Houten). There have been innumerable retellings of Laclos’s original story of seduction and duplicity throughout the years.
Both Dangerous Liaisons and Valmont by Stephen Frears and Milo Forman were released within the span of a single year. Dangerous Liaisons starred Glenn Close, John Malkovich, Michelle Pfeiffer, and Uma Thurman, while Valmont starred Colin Firth, Annette Bening, Meg Tilly, and both stayed true to the original plot and the historical period. Who could forget the modern-day adaptation of the narrative in the 1999 classic Cruel Intentions, which launched the careers and romances of such stars as Ryan Phillippe, Reese Witherspoon, Sarah Michelle Gellar, and Selma Blair? When STARZ’s adaptation of the French novel debuts on the streaming service on November 6, it seems certain to deliver the necessary heat, drama, and seduction to prove that there can never be too many ways to tell a good tale.
Synopsis
A daring prologue to Laclos’s renowned 18th-century book, “Dangerous Liaisons” tells the tale of how the Marquise de Merteuil and the Vicomte de Valmont, two of the novel’s most famous characters, first met and fell in love as young people in Paris on the brink of the revolution. This updated version of a famous tale transports readers to Paris before the revolution, a city of contrasts where they can experience awe, horror, beauty, degradation, seduction, and deceit.
The young couple’s existence hinges on their abilities to seduce and manipulate not just the French nobility, but also each other, as they are driven to rectify the wrongs of their past. The notorious lovers are portrayed by Alice Englert and Nicholas Denton: Camille, who is taken in by the current Marquise de Merteuil (played by Lesley Manville), forges her own path in a world of men, and uses the power of secrets to wrest control back into her own hands; and Valmont, who will stop at nothing to regain his recently stripped away title. The series revolves around their on-again, off-again romance. Rather than love, this is a state of conflict.
