Hulu has lifted the curtain on its brand new romantic comedy series, Wedding Season, which is filled with action and humour. This new teaser for the Hulu original introduces us to Katie and Stefan and promises an exciting whodunit. Wedding Season is the next project from the creators of the critically acclaimed Broad City on Comedy Central, and it argues that genres should not choose sides. Like many previous romantic comedies, Wedding Season opens with a dashing hero interrupting a wedding to voice his disapproval. Stefan (Gavin Drea) met the lady he would later marry, Katie (Rosa Salazar), during a wedding.
When security tackles him like a linebacker in a futile attempt to prevent the wedding, we know we’re in for a mushy romance. When Katie is found sitting among her guests, with her husband and his entire family dead on each side of her, and Stefan is hauled in for interrogation, the situation quickly changes. This Isn’t My Best Friend’s Wedding, then. Police quickly assume the wedding crasher or the lone surviving member of the wedding party had something to do with poisoning the groom’s family after discovering the bodies of seven wedding guests and one slain groom. Unfortunately, both Stefan and Katie feel Katie was responsible, albeit Katie holds her ex-husband responsible.
The teaser presents one red herring after another, implying that the murdered Delaneys weren’t quite The Waltons. Stefan and Katie’s reckless chase throughout the United Kingdom and the United States for money, reputation, and retribution on Hulu’s groundbreaking series. Up-and-coming screenwriter Oliver Lyttelton, who wrote the web series Cheaters, scripted Wedding Season. George Kane, who directed the Netflix series Crashing starring Phoebe Waller-Bridge (Fleabag) and Laura Scrivano (The Lazarus Project), is at the helm of the Hulu original.
Producing Wedding Season are Disney+’s Johanna Devereaux and Dancing Ledge Productions’ Chris Carey, Laurence Bowen, and Toby Bruce, as well as Jax Media’s Brooke Posch, Tony Hernandez, and Lilly Burns (Broady City). Drea and Salazar have invited a cast of characters including Jade Harrison, Jamie Michie, Callie Cooke, Ioanna Kimbrook, Bhav Joshi, and Omar Baroud to their fatal wedding. The first official day of the wedding season has been planned for September 8. Invites have been sent out.
Synopsis
This genre-bending comedy chronicles the tale of Katie and Stefan, who fall in love during a wedding and begin an affair despite Katie already having a fiancĂ©. The show was created by the same team behind “Broad City,” “Difficult People,” “Younger,” and “Search Party.” Unfortunately, Katie’s new husband and his entire family are slain just two months later during their wedding. They suspect Stefan did it, and he is a suspect in their investigation. As far as Stefan is concerned, it was Katie who committed the crime. Moreover, the reality is unknown to everybody save a select few.
