How far are you ready to go to defend what is true and right? FX has unveiled the teaser for its riveting docuseries Children of the Underground, which follows charismatic vigilante Faye Yager as she goes to great lengths to protect children who cannot defend themselves.
In the opening seconds of the almost two-minute teaser, a lady says the unsettling line, “I caught my ex-husband in the process of abusing my kid.” Yager would interject, “The court didn’t believe it.” Stories like these, along with other terrible events, would eventually lead Yager to resort to extreme methods in order to defend the most defenceless in areas where the law was unable to intervene.
Hundreds of people in need are seen in the video, all of whom were rejected by a biased legal system. Women who display too much emotion are labelled as crazy, and husbands who are abusive are often not believed to be capable of such violence because they “do not appear” like the type of individuals who would do something so horrible. Due to her efforts to protect vulnerable populations, Yager would eventually find herself in conflict with the police and on the most wanted list.
Yager, who had contacts all over the world, would make the disappearance of persons who needed to age out of existence, but this service did not come cheap. Yager kept going even though the cost to her life was high, despite the fact that the FBI, local law police, and even bounty hunters were all on her trail. After failing to bring those actually guilty to justice, the law would reach out to capture her and put her on trial for her deeds.
The heart-pounding true narrative told in Children of the Underground is that of Yager, who created a massive underground network that sheltered hundreds of women and children from the alleged abuse of their fathers.
Yager put herself in the line of fire with law enforcement by appearing on daytime talk shows to generate awareness for the cause; she then faced a highly publicised trial that would put her mettle to the test. When she rescued the family of a prominent man, it marked a major turning point in her path and forced her to confront the question of who she really was. Saint or Satan? With the assistance of these docuseries, we can finally see the less-than-obvious reality. On August 12, FX will debut the first episode of a five-part documentary series that will also be available on Hulu.
