The creator of “The Simpsons” has given a sneak peek at what the inhabitants of Springfield will be up to in the show’s upcoming ninth season. The season opener will centre on Homer (Dan Castellaneta) being engaged with a conspiracy cabal, as revealed by showrunner Matt Selman in an interview with Deadline. Two of the show’s classic “Treehouse of Horror” episodes, which air around Halloween, will be included in this season. Back in Season 27, the show aired two Halloween episodes, one of which was the classic “Treehouse of Horror” and the other of which took place in the regular chronology of the show. This year’s “Treehouse of Horror” will spoof the anime Death Note in one of the usual three-storey episodes.
The second will be a send-up of It, with Krusty the Clown playing the role of Pennywise. Krusty will also be the centre of an episode in which he hosts an afternoon discussion show. Selman likened Ellen DeGeneres’s talk show, which aired from 2003 until 2022, to Krusty the Clown’s. An episode this season will detail the methods used by The Simpsons to foretell the future. In the episode “Bart to the Future,” which originally aired in 2000, President Lisa Simpson predicts that Donald Trump will be president before her.
To use just one example, Simu Liu, star of Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, will guest appear this season as the love interest of Lisa (Yeardley Smith).
In Season 6’s “Lisa’s Wedding,” we got a glimpse into Lisa’s potential romantic future. The guest starring in this season is Melissa McCarthy. According to Selman, “she has a pretty juicy, amusing part as a youngster who is Homer’s competition for affection from Grandpa.” “She portrays a quirky youngster who has Grandpa’s devotion, but Homer can’t understand why. How come he didn’t like me?” Selman said that it was a “really emotional” scene.
Selman said, “I can’t wait for Season 34.” “One must not rest on one’s oars. Each episode should stand on its own in terms of tone, story, style, visuals, scares, and cinematic flair, so you’ll need to keep challenging yourself. About 85% of them had this done to them. You’ve done a nice job there. A B+ was considered an excellent grade by me all along.”
The Simpsons Season 34 premiere airs on Fox on September 25.
