Mitzi Peirone’s next thriller Saint Clare will star Ryan Phillippe (The Locksmith) and Bella Thorne, and Phillippe has already been cast in a pivotal part. Deadline broke the news of Phillippe’s appointment and provided additional background on the role he would play. Philippe will portray Timmons, the police officer looking into the recent homicides in his tiny village, in which a girl called Clare, 16, is the prime suspect. In a statement, the film’s producers expressed their excitement at welcoming Ryan to the cast of Saint Clare.
As Detective Timmons, “his performance alongside Bella Thorne is dark and fascinating on television.” Phillippe has a long list of award-winning credits, including roles in Crash and Gosford Park. He will next be seen in The Locksmith, starring with Kate Bosworth and Kaylee Bryant in the next Nicolas Harvard film, and in the upcoming thriller Collide, directed by Mukunda Michael Dewil and also starring Drea De Mateo and Kat Graham. Based on Don Roff’s best-selling novel of the same name, Saint Clare will be released in 2021.
Clare Bleecker, played by Thorne, is a shy and reclusive catholic college student who is granted a “divine vocation for murdering” in both the film and the novel. Peirone not only directed, but also co-wrote the film’s suspenseful screenplay with American Psycho’s Guinevere Turner. The cast also includes Frank Whaley (Pulp Fiction), Bart Johnson (High School Musical), Dylan Flashner (The Fault in Our Stars), and Rebecca De Mornay (Lucifer) (The Card Counter).
Flashner just finished filming the aforementioned Collide, in which he had a starring role with Phillippe. Whaley will portray Mailman Bob, a spectre from Clare’s past, Johnson will play Joe and Randall, Clare’s brothers, and Flashner will play a supporting character named Wade. The production team includes David Chackler, Arielle Elwes, and Joel Michaely. Actor Thorne, together with Cassian Elwes, Seth Needle, Mark Damon, Tamara Birkemoe, Veronica Radaelli, Tom Culliver, Nadia Redler, Dave Sereny, and Jere Hausfater, served as executive producers. Foresight Unlimited is in charge of exports.
