In honour of Sonic the Hedgehog 2’s release on 4K Ultra HD and Blu-ray today, Paramount Movies have released a deleted scene from the film. The initial meeting between Sonic (voiced by Ben Schwartz) and Knuckles is shown in a seven-minute extended teaser from Sonic the Hedgehog 2 that was distributed by Paramount (voiced by Idris Elba)
Right at the start of Sonic the Hedgehog 2, the Blue Lightning is left alone at home while the rest of his family attends a wedding, and this is the scene where the teaser takes place. After being chased by Tails, Sonic finally has some time to himself, but his plans are dashed when Doctor Robotnik shows up (Jim Carrey).
In the new film, Robotnik has recruited an echidna named Knuckles to aid him. The good news is that Tails (voiced by Colleen O’Shaughnessey) is on her way to assist Sonic in his escape. Not only did Paramount Movies release the nearly seven-minute-long first major action sequence from Sonic the Hedgehog 2, but they also published a number of other new videos. There’s a brand new outtake for fans to enjoy on the disc edition of the movie.
Doctor Robotnik learns that the Pentagon has frozen his assets and wiped his record. To this goal, the antagonist launches a crowdfunding campaign posing as a sick individual in urgent need of money. Since this was an unfinished scene during post-production, Knuckles is performed by a member of the team carrying a life-size doll of Sonic’s archenemy. The original Sonic the Hedgehog movie was a pleasant surprise, made all the more so by the fact that the creative team listened to fan comments and reimagined the title character just a few short months before the film’s debut.
The final design of Sonic the Hedgehog was true to the video games, and the film was a big financial success, thus a sequel was announced less than two months after its first release.
Even if the sequel to Sonic the Hedgehog wasn’t as well received as the first, the series is still set to grow in the years to come. Knuckles: The Animated Series, a spin-off series being created for Paramount+, and a third film set for release in 2024. With Sonic the Hedgehog 2 hinting at Shadow’s emergence, it appears like Paramount will continue to rush through the successful franchise. The Wachowski siblings, Tom (James Marsden) and Maddie (Tika Sumpter) return in their original roles in Sonic the Hedgehog 2.
Agent Stone himself, Lee Majdoub, will be back for more. Adam Pally, Natasha Rothwell, and Shemar Moore are among the other actors set to star in the film. The creative crew from the original film is also back for the sequel: Jeff Fowler returns as director, and Pat Casey, Josh Miller, and John Whittington all return as writers. Blu-ray and the more advanced 4K Ultra HD format of Sonic the Hedgehog 2 may also be purchased now.
