The latest teaser for Netflix’s forthcoming film Do Revenge shows how much more fun it is to enjoy bringing your foes down with a friend. Together, Camila Mendes and Maya Hawke decide to get revenge on those who wronged them by working to bring down the persons responsible for the injustice. On September 16, the steamboat will host a colourful, Hitchcockian twist on a vengeance plot in the dark comedy. The trailer begins with an explanation of how Drea (Mendes) and Eleanor (Hawke) joined forces for retribution. After Drea’s (Austin Abrams) ex-boyfriend Max (Austin Abrams) posted their sex tape online, Drea’s reputation as the ultimate it girl was shattered.
But Eleanor’s life was shattered when Carissa (Ava Capri) spread rumours that she was a predator who tried to hold her down and kiss her. Drea and Eleanor hit it off after meeting by happenstance in a parking lot and immediately begin planning their revenge. The upbeat pop music starts playing right away, setting the mood for a hilarious tale of high school retribution in which murder is replaced by the vengeance of two adolescent girls, which, given Drea and Eleanor’s plotting, could as well be actual murder.
When plotting together, the two had much too much fun, trying on new clothes and bonding on their mutual loathing. Because “it is much simpler to ruin a girl,” Drea has been given the responsibility of eliminating Carissa. Max is the more unlikeable and difficult target because of this. In an effort to “make up” for his little sex video plan, he establishes a comically over-the-top woke club to rebrand himself as the ultimate progressive golden boy.
If Eleanor wants to expose him for what he really is, she’ll have to blend in with his crowd. Do Revenge comes from Jennifer Kaytin Robinson, who wrote Thor: Love and Thunder and aims to include some of the female friendship themes from her directorial debut, Someone Great. In addition to her, the film’s co-writer is Celeste Ballard, who most recently penned the script for the LeBron James-starring sequel Space Jam: A New Legacy. Robinson and executive producer Josh Bachove are joined by producers Anthony Bregman and Peter Cron.
Robinson enlisted Este Haim, composer of Cha Cha Real Smooth, and Amanda Yamate, who worked on the music for Gossip Girl, to produce the show’s peppy score. The Do Revenge has an ensemble cast that also includes Jonathan Daviss, Alisha Boe, Rish Shah, Maia Reficco, Paris Berelc, Talia Ryder, and Sophie Turner. The 16th of September will be the day it hits Netflix.
