The trailer for the new horror film Margaux, which is like the love child of Black Mirror on Netflix and Alexa on Amazon, was released today by Paramount Pictures. A group of pals decide to spend the weekend in a futuristic home where everything can be operated by voice command or by scanning the owner’s retina. Everything is run by the main AI character, and it doesn’t appear to have the visitors’ best interests in mind. The release date for the film in early September. The trailer for Margaux combines scenes from horror movies with cutting-edge technology in a mansion we’d all like to call home.
What could possibly go wrong with a bunch of young kids in a remote area? The teaser also reveals that Margaux will add its own spin to the slasher genre by featuring a murderer that is almost everywhere at once. The trailer also does a good job of making us question the nature of this lethal AI and what inspired Margaux to act this way, by implying that one of the gang members isn’t as enthusiastic as the others to have fun at home, which leads her to hit a button that could have doomed them all.
Obviously, they wouldn’t spoil the conclusion in that way, but there must be more going on with Margaux than we know at this point. Director Steven C. Miller has a long history with thrillers, having previously overseen the Bruce Willis vehicles Marauders and First Kill, the Aaron Eckhart vehicle Line of Duty, and the most recent thriller, Escape Plan 2: Hades. Margaux is a co-write between seasoned screenwriter Chris Beyrooty (Shelter in Place) and first-time feature picture writer Nick Waters. In addition to Madison Pettis (The Fosters) and Vanessa Morgan (Riverdale), the cast also includes Richard Harmon (The 100), Lochlyn Munro (Riverdale), Jedidiah Goodacre (Chilling Adventures of Sabrina), Phoebe Miu (Upload), Jordan Buhat (Grown-ish), Brittany Mitchell (Just One Kiss), and Louis Lay (Motherland: Fort Salem). On September 9, Paramount Pictures will release Margaux exclusively on digital and on-demand platforms.
