As per an exclusive report from Deadline, actor Dave Bautista is in discussions to feature in Unleashed on Netflix, with brothers Jim and Brian Kehoe (who penned Blockers) engaged to create the script. Comedy film director Jeff Tomsic (2018’s Tag) is attached to helm the next picture. The film will follow Bautista’s character, a police officer, and his canine buddy, Boomer, who can detect any kind of criminal activity. After Boomer’s untimely death on the job, the grieving police officer swore he would never again team up with a dog, but fate brought him to work with Zeus.
With a hook like that, Unleashed has the makings of a film that dog owners will want to see when it premieres in the near future. The Unleashed project has thus far been kept under wraps, but more information is sure to emerge as work progresses. The next Netflix production will have the Kehoe brothers not only writing the script but also acting as executive producers. The Kehoe brothers seem to be establishing themselves in Hollywood with the success of Blockers, with a number of major projects in the works.
Paramount’s Double Fault, starring Rebel Wilson, is a tennis comedy that the two screenwriters are slated to compose. The film follows a former tennis player who tries to make amends by instructing a young player and the plot centres on her redemption. In addition to negotiations to lead the cast of Unleashed, Bautista is expected to make an unspecified appearance in Rian Johnson’s Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery later this year. Both films will be available on Netflix. Bautista will also feature in the next film Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, where he will play the beloved MCU villain Drax the Destroyer.
The actor will reprise his role as Rabban in the sequel to Dune, which is scheduled for release on November 17, 2023. The actor will also have voice roles in the animated series Army of the Dead: Lost Vegas and M. Night Shyamalan’s apocalyptic horror feature Knock at the Cabin, both of which will premiere on Disney+ in the near future. Unleashed will include Bautista, Jonathan Meisner, Good Fear’s Chris Bender, and Jake Weiner as producers. Since production on the film has just begun, there is currently no scheduled release date. Netflix is the official launch partner for Unleashed.
