A new, terrifying video called Thirteen Lives, about the 2018 cave rescue of twelve boys and their soccer coach in Thailand, has just been made available on Prime Video. Directed by Hollywood heavyweight Ron Howard, the new film provides an in-depth examination of the rescue operation that brought the globe together. Moreover, Prime Video has launched a new special called “Thirteen Lives — Dream Audience” in celebration of the new film.
Our new short takes us behind the scenes during an exclusive showing of Howard’s latest flick. Interviews with the crowd, a seemingly random and unrelated bunch brought together for no apparent reason, kick off the documentary.
All of them are thrilled to be there, but they don’t know what’s going on or why they’ve been invited. But when Ron Howard joins the audience via video, all questions are answered. He turns to the seemingly random collection of audience members and says, “you’re probably looking around at each other wondering, what do I have in common with these other people?” There just isn’t much to it. As soon as he asks the question, he pulls up a number of social media posts from audience members, and the pattern quickly becomes apparent.
Everyone there shared content relating to the recent Tham Luang Cave Rescue. In 2018, the entire audience was united in fear and prayer for the twelve lads and their coach who had been bravely extracted from a flooded tunnel. Howard’s example sheds light on a more optimistic side of our increasingly social media connections, which may sometimes appear to be all bad. And thus, in recognition of that fleeting sense of community, Ron Howard hand-picked this group of people to see Thirteen Lives before its official release on Amazon Prime Video. The 2018 rescue effort that galvanised the globe is chronicled in Thirteen Lives. The film is a gritty and realistic depiction of the efforts made during the rescue mission that united the globe and how the rescuers triumphed against the obstacles to preserve the lives of thirteen people.
Pattrakorn Tungsupakul, Tui Thiraphat Sajakul, James Teeradon Supapunpinyo, Sahajak Boonthanakit, and Weir Sukollawat Kanaros also feature in the film alongside Viggo Mortensen, Colin Farrell, Joel Edgerton, Tom Bateman, Paul Gleeson, and a host of others. William Nicholson wrote the script for the film. Brian Grazer, Ron Howard, Karen Lunder, William M. Connor, and P.J. van Sandwijk served as producers for Thirteen Lives.
