Bong Joon-newest Ho’s science-fiction film has begun filming in the United Kingdom, according to a recent report from KFTV.com. With Robert Pattinson as its leading man, a film based on Edward Ashton’s novel Mickey7, which was released in February, is now in preproduction. As previously reported, Toni Collette, best recognised for her part in Hereditary, and Mark Ruffalo, well known for his role as Bruce Banner in The Hulk, will feature in the picture.
In addition to Steven Yeun and Naomi Ackie, who recently appeared in Jordan Peele’s Nope, the film will star Yeun (Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker). In the film, it’s not clear what the cast members will be playing. In Ashton’s story, an expendable named Mickey7 is dispatched on a perilous mission to settle the icy world of Niflheim, which Bong’s script depicts. Regeneration after death is possible for Mickey7 since he is a disposable employee who goes on a terrible quest.
There will be seven incarnations of him, and each one will discover the conditions of his bargain. A fresh and original premise makes it curious to watch how the filmmaker will put his own distinctive touch on such a high-concept plot in the next film. Parasite, Bong’s black-comedy thriller released in 2019, received a 99 per cent critical rating on Rotten Tomatoes and a 90 per cent audience rating from critics. Acclaim for Parasite led to the film being nominated for four Academy Awards at the 86th Academy Awards: best picture; best directing; best original script; and best international film.
Among the filmmaker’s other credits are the critically acclaimed films Okja, Snowpiercer, and The Host. Bong’s devoted following will have something to look forward to in the near future with the announcement of a new film from the famed director. With the help of Kate Street Pictures’ Dooho Choi, Dooho Choi, Dede Gardner and Jeremy Kleiner from Plan B, Bong wrote the screenplay for the next film and produced it under his Offscreen company. No release date has been determined yet because filming for the project is still ongoing.
