The official trailer and release date for IFC Midnight’s World War II thriller Burial has been released. During the last several months of the war, a squad of troops must put their lives in jeopardy in order to prevent the truth from falling into the hands of German “Werewolf” rebels. The fictitious wartime period piece stars Tom Felton and Charlotte Vega. Russian troops are shown in the teaser bringing Adolf Hitler’s corpses to Stalin in Russia. Intelligence officer Brana Vasilyeva (Vega) is instructed to forgo the speed and comfort of a jet to carry out this mission as discreetly as possible in order to prevent the truth of what has occurred from being buried forever.
A dangerous trek through mud and dense woodland separates the men from their goal of reaching Russia, where they bury Hitler’s corpses every nightfall in case they are ambushed and massacred. When the German “Werewolf” resistance begins to kill them one at a time, the objective to deliver the body takes precedence over their own lives. As the troops begin to question their sanity, paranoia sets in as they are relentlessly watched and hunted, the clock ticking in the trailer’s backdrop heighten the stress. Burial was inspired by British writer and filmmaker Ben Parker’s interest in Stalin’s quest for concealment, which he described as “contentious history.”.
Because he feared that the Allies might pull their financial and military assistance if the finding of Hitler’s charred remains was made public, the dictator ordered the Red Army to keep the knowledge strictly hidden. Following this discovery, Parker learned about the German Werewolf propaganda, a tactic used by groups of guerrilla warriors to inspire fear in their opponents. Thus, Burial’s fictitious scenario was developed from the pages of history, blurring the borders between a historical thriller and a horror film. The Chamber, starring Johannes Kuhnke and Charlotte Salt, was Parker’s breakthrough feature picture in 2016, and Burial is his follow-up.
The Chamber is a North Korean-set horror film in the manner of Burial. When a squad of Special Ops is stuck in their submarine on a secret recovery mission, their mission is compromised. In addition to Girl on the Third Floor, which he created and produced, Parker is working on various television projects. Buried in Burial with Vega and Felton are other actors like Harriet Walker, Kristjan Üksküla and Barry Ward and musicians like Dan Skinner, Niall Murphy, Bill Milner, Tambet Tusk and Hendrik Tampere. As of September 2, Burial will be available in cinemas and on demand for rental or purchase.
