Billy Magnussen’s CV is about to get even longer, as he joins the ranks of yet another legendary organisation. Just after starring with Gina Rodriguez, Zachary Levi and Everly Carganilla in Season 2 of HBO’s dark comedy Made for Love Deadline claims that the actor will join the already confirmed cast of Spy Kids in Netflix revival. It all began in 2001 with the release of the first Espionage Kids film, which depicts pair of siblings who become spies after following in the footsteps of their parents and becoming involved in the spy agency’s activities. Following the creation of a department at the agency dedicated to the development of the next generation of spies, the franchise began to take off.
The two children of the world’s greatest spies, who accidentally helped a malevolent game creator construct an unstoppable computer virus, will be the centre of this next, yet unnamed edition. Kids must assume the role of parents in order to stop the virus from taking over the world’s technology. For the relaunch, Robert Rodriguez, who has been involved with the series from its inception, is back. But even though Alita: Battle Angel and Billie Eilish’s Happier Than Ever are both popular films, he has always been the heart and soul of Spy Kids, even if some of the films weren’t well-received.
Racer Max joins him as a co-writer and producer, while Elizabeth Avellan also produces, is directing, writing, and producing the new feature. David Ellison, Dana Goldberg, and Don Granger served as executive producers for Skydance; Gary Barber and Peter Oillataguerre served as executive producers for Spyglass. Magnussen has been quietly building an impressive film and television résumé over the past few years. In Many Saints of Newark, he played a younger version of Tony Sirico’s Paulie Walnuts, which was his most recent notable film performance, but he previously appeared in Made for Love starring Cristin Milioti and Ray Romano.
He has also appeared in Game Night, Into the Woods, and The Big Short. Black Mirror’s “USS Callister” and American Crime Story’s Kato Caelin are two of his more notable television appearances. Still, he also has a slew of other small-screen roles to his name. Harley Quinn and the Joker: Sound Mind is one of Magnussen’s latest podcasts, in which he’ll portray The Joker opposite Christina Ricci’s Harley Quinn. Lift, starring Kevin Hart, is his next project. Netflix’s relaunch of Spy Kids has yet to get a title or release date.
