According to hints uncovered on LinkedIn, the epic vehicular destruction game Twisted Metal may be returning shortly. It established the bar for early automobile combat games on the PlayStation 1 and provided 90s gamers with multiplayer clashes between its 12 playable drivers. There have been seven installments in the series since its inception. Eat Sleep Play’s Twisted Metal 2012 relaunch for the PlayStation 3 was the most recent, and it emphasized large multiplayer combat for up to 16 players online and in split-screen mode for up to four players.
This game’s flawless controls and engaging characters drew players in more than the game’s action-packed plot and dynamic environments. For example, there’s a napalm-slinging ice cream truck driven by a clown with fire for hair and a very powerful man driving a large tire-wrapped vehicle for each character. Sony intends to produce a live-action Twisted Metal action-comedy series starring Anthony Mackie, despite the fact that the games have been around for several decades. This game franchise has been idle since 2012, which is surprising considering the plot revolves around a bunch of homicidal outlaws with distinct personalities and custom-made armed cars.
a Lead Game Designer called Drew Williams-Rostron recently identified his present employment at Lucid Games as “Technical Games Designer on an unknown first-party flagship AAA IP for the PlayStation 5” on his LinkedIn account, according to Twitter user Timur222 (via PSU). Most people are familiar with Lucid Games because of its PS5-exclusive Destruction AllStars, which boasts a vast cast of characters in a large vehicular battle arena that emphasizes driving skills over lethal weapons. Lucid Games would seem like an easy choice for a new first-party AAA vehicle combat game for the PlayStation 5, given that Destruction AllStars will be one of the first titles Sony chooses to provide free to PlayStation Plus users on PS5 in February 2020.
A Nicholas Cage-starring, Twisted Metal movie was nearly made by Sony, but the project was scrapped owing to budgetary difficulties. However, there is no word on whether or not a new Twisted Metal game is in development. With so many rumors swirling and casting announcements pouring in for the live-action series, this seems like a perfect time to release a new game.
Arcade racing games are in high demand right now because of the next generation of hardware and the ability to show off new game engines’ abilities to damage intricately realistic vehicles. The PS5’s powerful hardware should be able to render crushed and exploding automobiles beautifully, making Twisted Metal the ideal series to bring back. We can only hope that Sony announces a new Twisted Metal game before we hear how Will Arnett’s Sweet Tooth will sound in the Twisted Metal live-action show.
