Naruto Uzumaki had a variety of mentors who aided him in his quest to become the Hokage of Konoha, but Jiraiya was possibly the most influential because he was both a teacher and a father figure to young Naruto. Jiraiya also served as a mentor to Naruto’s father, Minato. What arguably hurts the most about Jiraiya’s death is that he is the only character in the series who is not revived. Jiraiya has played an important role in Naruto’s growth and character development since the first season. So, how and when does Naruto learn of Jiraiya’s death?
Jiraiya, also known as Toad Sage, taught Naruto how to call Toads from Mount Myoboku and was the first mentor to attempt to assist Naruto handle his Nine-Tails power. Jiraiya was renowned for being a snoop and a loner. But he was also one of the greatest ninjas, traveling the world in search of answers to questions that would help him write the several volumes he published. The information he gained benefited not only his friends but, after his death, the entire planet. That information would be passed down to his single most powerful heir, Naruto Uzumaki.
Jiraiya, who was he?
Jiraiya was a Sannin in Konohagakure. Jiraiya was teamed with two other members after graduating from Konoha’s Ninja Academy, and they were led by Hiruzen Sarutobi. Jiraiya came upon Mount Myboku, often known as the Home of the Toads, while studying under Hiruzen. It was here that he learned how to call toads without first signing a contract with them, and it was for this reason that he became known as Toad Sage later in his life. Jiraiya’s life was affected by a prediction made by his teacher. Hiruzen predicted that Jiraiya would tour the world and meet the Child of the Prophecy, who would become his greatest disciple. Furthermore, the fate of the world was placed in Jiraiya’s hands when he was warned that his students will grow up to either rescue or destroy the planet according on how Jiraiya educates them.
What made Jiraiya the greatest ninja of his generation?
Jiraiya was a really powerful shinobi. After defeating Hanz and his huge salamander, Ibuse, he was crowned Sanin. In comparison, the Uchiha Clan and the Seven Ninja Swordsmen of the Mist, for example, died away. Kisame Hoshigaki and Itachi Uchiha agreed that the most they could hope for was a stalemate against Jiraiya, and that would only be possible if they worked together.
Jiraiya and Naruto: Like father and son, Jiraiya and Naruto’s connection begins as that of a Godfather and his Godson. However, once he discovers Naruto may be the Child of the Prophecy, Jiraiya becomes Naruto’s instructor and begins training him to properly guide him. Jiraiya gave Naruto his name after the protagonist of his own novel “The Tale of the Utterly Gutsy Shinobi.” Unfortunately, Jiraiya was forced to flee the village after discovering the existence of the Orochimaru Clan, and so was unable to be a part of Naruto’s life for the first 12 years. Jiraiya would meet Naruto at the boy’s first Chunin Exam, where they would bond over their numerous similarities, including their desire to bring peace to the world and their unrequited love for their female comrades.
Jiraiya’s Assassination
Jiraiya’s death in Naruto Shippuden’s sixth season was one of the show’s most devastating moments. Not only was he not resurrected, but he was also murdered by his ex-student, Nagato. Nagato, who goes by the alias Pain, was the Akatsuki clan’s leader. During the duel, Nagato unleashes his Six Paths of Pain, which Jiraiya is unable to withstand, resulting in his death. Jiraiya left behind a coded message of information for Naruto during his final moments, which would later assist him find out the true identity of Pain.
When does Naruto learn of Jiraiya’s death?
Fukasaku is the one who informs Naruto about Jiraiya’s death. Fukasaku reports to Tsunade’s office in Chapter 90 of the manga and notifies her of Jiraiya’s death. Naruto’s friends and teachers are then informed, and eventually Naruto himself. He was not pleased with the news. Jiraiya was one of the only persons that treated Naruto well from the start. He cared for, adored, and trained Naruto as if he were his own child. Jiraiya was Naruto’s best sensei, and when he died, he left him distraught. He had a depressive phase and would cry for hours at a time. It required a lot of Iruka, Naruto’s academy instructor, to pull Naruto out of his episode and give him a reason to continue his training.
As a thank you for everything Jiraiya had done for him, Naruto dedicated himself and his life to protecting what his teacher wanted to protect. He would train atop Mount Myoboku for days at a time to develop his Sage mode. Naruto was going through a difficult time, but Jiraiya’s undying dedication to him molded him into the victorious Naruto we know today.
