According to an exclusive source from The Hollywood Reporter, Damon Lindelof’s (Lost, Watchmen) top-secret Star Wars picture is feeling the force. Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy, who directed Ms Marvel, has been selected to helm the upcoming big-screen film in the galaxy far, far away, and it was reported this week that the famed writer is creating the script. This source confirms the film will take place after the events of Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker (scheduled for release in 2019), although it will not serve as a direct sequel.
According to the newest information, the Lindelof-directed Star Wars picture may include characters from the prequel trilogy, while having no direct connection to the Skywalker narrative. The new movie is co-written by Lindelof and Justin Britt-Gibson (The Strain, The Counterpart). After the Star Wars Celebration, a group of promising young writers reportedly met in a hidden area, including Britt-Gibson, Patrick Somerville (The Leftovers), Rayna McClendon (Willow), and Andy Greenwald (Briarpatch). Sources indicate that after the film’s conception, Lindelof and Britt-Gibson began working on it, however, the other names may be associated with different projects.
The fact that Lindelof and Britt-movie Gibson’s is being billed as a one-off show that Lucasfilm may be shifting away from its trilogy plan. Despite the fact that the majority of their theatrical movies have stuck to fan-favourite characters (Luke Skywalker, Han Solo), Lucasfilm has received praise for broadening the galaxy in TV episodes like The Mandalorian and Andor. Since it is an independent film, maybe Lindelof and Britt-work Gibson will add to the cinematic canon of the Star Wars universe. Similar to other announced Star Wars movies, Lindelof’s project has no set release date.
Given the early stage of production, The Hollywood Reporter estimates that the earliest release might be around December 2025. You may recall that Patty Jenkins’ (Wonder Woman) Rogue Squadron picture was scheduled for release in December 2022. It is currently unknown what the status of the films being developed by Kevin Feige and Michael Waldron (Loki), Taika Waititi (Thor: Love and Thunder), and Krysty Wilson-Cairns (1917), respectively, is. The Mandalorian, Andor, The Book of Boba Fett, and Obi-Wan Kenobi are just a few of Lucasfilm’s successful Disney+ television releases. The Acolyte, Skeleton Crew, and Ahsoka, which will star Rosario Dawson in her original role, are also in the works.
