Poker Face, starring writer-director and Oscar winner Russell Crowe has a brand new trailer and poster, both of which were published by Screen Media. The plot of Poker Face centres on a group of friends who get together for their annual game of poker, only this time the stakes are really life or death. Crowe plays Jake Foley, a tech mogul and compulsive gambler who hosts the show. This is a game that the pals can’t pass up since the pot is a whopping $25 million. The problem is that Jake has poisoned them, having been mistreated by each of them in the past, such that the only way for them to remain “in the game” is to expose the truths that they have been holding from Jake.
The plot thickens when a band of robbers, supposing the mansion to be deserted, breaks in. The group of buddies has taken refuge in a secure chamber, and they’ll need to work together if they want to make it out alive. Jake’s strategy is introduced in the first minute and 58 seconds of the new teaser, which also highlights all the work Jake went in to extract the secrets from the individuals he thought were friends. Jake is revealed to be someone who is going “all in” in this game, from choosing the poison to following their movements. Jake’s girls get home just as the group of “friends” flees to their safe room after hearing about the game and the poisoning.
Jake states in a voiceover, “Life is just a game, right? Maximize your victories, minimise your losses, and stay in the game as long as you can.” This comes as the trailer builds to the showdown between the players and the robbers. Crowe not only plays the lead role in Poker Face but also directs and co-wrote the film’s screenplay with Stephen M. Coates. Liam Hemsworth, Rza, Brooke Satchwell, Aden Young, Steve Bastoni, Daniel MacPherson, Paul Tassone, Elsa Pataky, and Jack Thompson all-star with Crowe in the film.
A global premiere screening of Poker Face will take place on October 16, 2022, at the Rome Film Festival. The film will then open in cinemas on November 16, 2022, and be available on demand the following week, on November 22.
