Ryan Reynolds and the director of Strange World, Qui Nguyen, are developing a film based on the mythology of Disney theme parks. The two are planning to adapt Disney’s Society of Explorers and Adventurers into a feature film. The Society of Exploration and Adventure, or SEA, was once a component of the backstory and attractions of Tokyo Disneyland. You may also meet these folks in Hong Kong Disneyland’s Mystic Manor ride. The mythology of this made-up culture is extensive and complex. Though it had its beginnings in Italy in 1538, the organisation quickly spread all over the world.
Members of the SEA include not just intrepid explorers and adventurers but also scientists, artists, and world travellers of all sorts. Harrison Hightower III, Mary Oceaneer, and Lord Henry Mystic are just a few of the eccentric characters who make up the team. Though the SEA crew debuted in these two rides, they have subsequently expanded to other Disney parks and properties to the point that fans with eagle eyes can see links between other rides and locate SEA memorabilia all across the Disney parks and resorts. The film will be live-action, and Nguyen is expected to write the script. Reynolds, along with the executives under his banner Maximum Effort, will be acting as producers on the film.
According to rumours, Nguyen’s take on the SEA will focus on new characters that weren’t included in the original SEA literature and will have a mystical bent that favours the Mystic Manor sect of the organisation. This isn’t going to be like the upcoming Disney+ series about the Society for Exploration and Adventure. Ron Moore is in charge of both production and script for Disney+. Moore’s work takes place in the Magic Kingdom Realm, a parallel universe populated by Disney theme park characters and themed areas. In fact, this isn’t Nguyen’s first time working with the Disney company.
The next Disney animated picture Strange World, on which Nguyen previously worked, follows the Clade family, a tribe of explorers who must join together to navigate their way through their most difficult quest yet. Actors including Jake Gyllenhaal, Lucy Liu, Dennis Quaid, and Jaboukie Young-White are featured in the movie. And Reynolds will be back in the role of Deadpool in the third instalment of the Marvel Cinematic Universe film series (which is owned by Disney). No further information has been made public about the planned endeavour, but whatever ends up happening, it will be quite the journey.
