According to an exclusive report from Deadline, Nicholas Hoult is in discussions to feature in Focus Features’ remake of the classic horror film Nosferatu, directed by Robert Eggers. Hoult’s participation in the film is still being kept under wraps. Bill Skarsgrd (It) is set to play the lead vampire role, and he joins Lily-Rose Depp and the rest of the cast who have already been confirmed (The King). While the plot of the remake is still a secret, it has been said that it will be faithful to the original film.
The plot revolves around the titular ancient vampire (played by Depp) and his obsession with a young woman (also played by Depp) in 19th-century Germany, bringing unfathomable terror into her life as he does so. The film is the director’s dream project, and he’s been trying to make it for years. With the release of Nosferatu, the legendary monster may frighten a whole new generation of moviegoers. Eggers not only directs and writes the script for Nosferatu, but he also produces the picture alongside Jeff Robinov, John Graham, Chris Columbus, and Eleanor Columbus.
With its storied history in the horror genre and a promising new filmmaker at the helm, Nosferatu has the potential to be the next great horror picture. When BramStoker’s widow filed a lawsuit to have all copies of the film Nosferatu, an unlicensed version of the Dracula novel, destroyed, the picture was pulled from circulation in 1922. Despite efforts to bury it, Nosferatu has endured as a horror classic, earning praise even today for its spectacular visuals and unsettling atmosphere.
The film’s success prompted Werner Herzog to adapt it in 1979 under the title Nosferatu the Vampyre, which was similarly favourably received by reviewers. Shadow of the Vampire, a dramatised narrative of the creation of the 1922 film in which the crew comes to believe that the actor portraying Count Orlok is a genuine vampire, was released in 2000 and brought the original picture back into the spotlight. Next year will see the release of both Nosferatu and Renfield, with Hoult playing the servant Renfield to Count Dracula (Nicolas Cage) in the latter. On April 14th, 2023, the horror comedy will be released in cinemas. In addition to Garfield, an animated picture based on the legendary character, Hoult is attached to appear in The Menu, which also stars Ralph Fiennes and Anya Taylor-Joy.
Because Nosferatu is currently under production, there is no confirmed premiere date.
