If you’re a fan of M. Night Shyamalan’s work, you’ll be happy to know that the release date has been set for the next Untitled M. Night Shyamalan Thriller. The title, premise, and characters of the next film are all being kept under wraps from the public. Though this shouldn’t come as a shock to anyone, especially his admirers, given Shyamalan’s reputation for keeping a lid on the specifics of his projects. Shyamalan is independently producing the undisclosed film project, much like he did with Glass, Split, and The Visit, albeit the start date of production remains unclear.
The total worldwide gross for the movies was above $600 million. If previous thrillers are any indication, this one won’t have a problem breaking even at the box office. Nearly the past twenty years, Shyamalan’s films have amassed over $3.3 billion in worldwide box office earnings. The Split/Glass pair made $278.5 million and $250 million, respectively. Shyamalan’s most recent picture, Old, generated $90.1 million during the height of the epidemic, so it’s reasonable to assume that the as-yet-unnamed thriller will do well as well.
In 1999, with the release of The Sixth Sense, Shyamalan entered the mainstream and received nominations for Best Director and Best Original Screenplay from the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences. In the years since, he has directed several critically acclaimed and commercially successful movies, including Unbreakable, Signs, and The Village, as well as several others that did well at the box office but were met with mixed reviews, including Lady in the Water, The Happening, The Last Airbender, After Earth, The Visit, Split, and Glass. The 2010 picture Devil, for which he wrote and served as producer, was also a success.
In addition to his most recent feature film, Old, Shyamalan has served as an EP/guest director on Wayward Pines and an EP/showrunner on Servant. Featuring the talents of Dave Bautista, Ben Aldridge, Jonathan Groff, Kristen Cui, Rupert Grint, Nikki Amuka-Bird, and Abby Quinn, his next project, Knock at the Cabin, is set for release on February 3, 2023.
Universal Pictures has chosen Friday, April 5, 2024, for the wide release of the Untitled picture.
