After waiting for several lunar cycles, a release date for Teen Wolf: The Movie has been set. The long-awaited movie is finally coming to Paramount+’s streaming service on January 26, 2023. The next film serves as a sequel to the critically acclaimed supernatural series, which ended its epic six-season run in 2017. The series chronicles the experiences of shy youngster Scott McCall (Tyler Posey) as he goes through the changes associated with becoming a werewolf after being bitten just before starting his sophomore year of high school. The Beacon Hills pack is getting back together for a new chapter in the Teen Wolf tale, five years after the series finale.
Few specifics about the fantasy epic have been revealed, but a clip from the film provides enough fodder for howls of excitement. Some time has already passed between the end of the series and the beginning of the feature, according to a teaser shown at New York Comic Con. Derek Hale (Tyler Hoechlin) can be seen in the footage bringing his son Eli Hale off the Lacrosse field & into the Beacon Hills locker room. Although Derek is known for his dark, brooding persona, he breaks character by trying to cheer up Eli after a tough game. A flying arrow interrupts their pleasant conversation, just missing Eli’s head.
At first, everyone is taken aback when Allison Argent (Crystal Reed) casually enters the scene with her trademark bow and arrow. Given that Allison sadly died in Scott’s arms during the series, the moment has an added layer of horror. Allison, a look of resentment on her face, turns her attention to Derek, who is confused to see her standing there. As if that were not shocking enough, as he collapses to the ground she fires an arrow at his throat, severing flesh in the process. One method to get people excited about the movie before it comes out is to do something like that. Still not convinced? The streaming giant has suggested that Derek won’t be the only character to see a major change. Scott is no longer a teenager, but he is still an alpha, and a new danger has prompted him to enlist the aid of his traditional pack.
It’s hinted in the film’s promotional materials that “…only a werewolf like Scott McCall, no longer a teenager yet still an alpha, can both collect new allies and reconnect loyal friends to fight back against what may be the most powerful and deadly opponent they’ve ever faced.” Banshees, were-coyotes, hellhounds, and kitsunes, among other mystical favourites, are all likely to make an appearance in Beacon Hills. Fans can expect to see familiar faces like Holland Roden, Shelley Hennig, Colton Haynes, and Dylan Sprayberry in what is sure to be a memorable reunion.
The show’s creator, Jeff Davis, is coming on board as an EP as well as a writer. Dylan O’Brien, who portrays Scott’s best buddy and right-hand man, is not among the cast members expected to return, which is a major disappointment for fans of the spooky drama. However, in an earlier interview with Variety, the actor expressed his enthusiasm for the picture, saying that he planned to “see it the first night it comes out.”
Starting January 26, 2023, you may watch Teen Wolf: The Movie on Paramount+.
