While David Tennant and Michael Sheen were not physically present at this morning’s Empire Stage at the Javits Center presentation for Good Omens Season 2, they did make an appearance in the exclusive trailer shown to fans. Maggie Lovitt was there to report on the panel, and while the video clip won’t be posted online anytime soon, she will be.
The opening takes place at Nina’s (Nina Sosanya) and Mrs Sandwich’s (Donna Preston) coffee shop, Give Me Coffee or Give Me Death, where Mrs Sandwich harrases Nina about her hopeless romantic prospects.
Nina is unconvinced, but their chat is interrupted by something strange happening outside the coffee shop. Towards Aziraphale’s bookstore, a beautiful young woman in out-of-the-ordinary all-white policeman garb marches. Obviously, this new character is Muriel (Quelin Sepulveda), who, unlike the other jerks we encountered in heaven throughout Season 1, is a decent angel like Aziraphale. Aziraphale is taken aback when she unexpectedly shows up at his business, but she quickly reassures him that she is only a regular human police officer. In a surprising move, Aziraphale offers her a cup of tea.
They have many laughs as she struggles to understand why people drink tea and has no idea how to properly hold a cup. The situation is already very funny, but Crowley bursts in with a phoney plant in a box, tutting over a mistake. Aziraphale and Crowley sneak into the backroom after questioning the scared new angel carefully. The panel was filled up with other charming faces from Season 2’s cast and crew, so it didn’t matter that Sheen and Tennant weren’t there.
On the production side of things, we had Neil Gaiman, the show’s creator, runner, and executive producer; Douglas Mackinnon, the show’s runner, showrunner, and director; and Rob Wilkins, the show’s executive producer. Maggie Service, Dana Sosanya, and Daniel Sepulveda were also present at New York Comic Con. Both Service and Sosanya make a comeback from Season 1, but in different capacities as characters with their own names (Maggie and Nina). Also returning from the pilot is Miranda Richardson, who will be playing a different character this time around. The panellists were able to confirm that the second season would be available on Prime Video in the summer of 2023, but an official premiere date has not yet been announced.
