Even though the 2022 New York Comic-Con has just begun, we already have some exciting news for those who enjoy scary and suspenseful shows. There was a panel today when AMC Networks announced the premiere date and debuted the first official teaser for their adaptation of Anne Rice’s The Mayfair Witches. The Anne Rice Immortal Universe, which also gave us the thrilling Interview with the Vampire, will soon have a new addition: a television series. If you’re a lover of vampires and witches, you’ll be happy to know that the new show won’t be debuting until the first week of January. Based on the teaser, it appears like each episode of Mayfair Witches will follow a format similar to that of Interview with the Vampire, with contemporary and historical plotlines woven together.
As the video implies, Rowan (Alexandra Daddario), a young neurosurgeon, learns that she comes from a long line of witches, much like how Lestat introduces us to the vampire world as a rookie in Interview with the Vampire. Mayfair Witches, based on the teaser, looks like it will double down on secrets, breathtaking cinematography, production design, and hot couplings, while also delving deeply into the mythology of witches and their rituals, esoteric magic, covens, and hidden organisations. Having worked on the creation and writing of Showtime’s Masters of Sex, Esta Spalding and Michelle Ashford are bringing their talents to the television adaptation of Mayfair Witches.
Jack Huston, Tongayi Chirisa, Beth Grant, Jan Richards, Hannah Alline, and Harry Hamlin round out the cast alongside Daddario. Mayfair Witches is, as the name indicates, based on a series of books written by the late, great Anne Rice. The author established a vast dark universe spanning more than 15 novels, but the two film adaptations—Interview with the Vampire in 1994 and Queen of the Damned in 2002—fell short of the source material. Carly Lane emphasised that the new AMC lineup of shows presents a unique opportunity to develop an ambitious tale that works perfectly on the small screen. Two episodes of Anne Rice’s Mayfair Witches will debut on AMC+ on January 5.
Synopsis

In the film Mayfair Witches, played by Alexandra Daddario, a young, perceptive neurosurgeon learns that she is the unexpected heiress to a line of witches. She has to deal with a dark force that has followed her family for decades while she learns to control her new abilities.
