That settles it! In the yet-unnamed follow-up to Ghostbusters: Afterlife, Mckenna Grace will once again be donning her Proton Pack to battle malevolent ghosts. The actress confirmed the news in an interview with Comic Book, where she also discussed her upcoming role in Peacock’s dramatised true-crime series Friend of the Family. In a recent interview, she said that she had been “constantly pressing” Afterlife director Jason Reitman for details on the premise of the sequel. McKenna admitted, “I literally have no ounce of a clue what the tale is,” because she had no idea what would happen to her character, Phoebe.
McKenna is excited to be reunited with the Ghostbusters gang, despite the fact that she is not up to speed on the narrative details. To reprise her role as Phoebe, she adds, “I’m simply delighted to do a second one.” The news that Grace will reprise her role in the sequel is exciting even if it doesn’t provide much more about the film. In June, Sony said that it was working on a sequel to the 1994 film Afterlife and that the Spengler family will be returning to New York City, the setting of the first film.
In addition to the sequel, it was recently revealed to fans that other more Ghostbusters-related projects, including a Ghostbusters 5, are in the works. In Ghostbusters: Afterlife, a new, younger cast of characters was presented to fans. A woman (Carrie Coon) and her two children (Finn Wolfhard and Grace) leave their old life behind and relocate to an ancient family house in Oklahoma. There, they learn that their grandpa actually served with the Ghostbusters back in the day. The grandchildren become enmeshed in the family business as they delve further into their grandfather’s past and eventually must face their own demons.
In addition to Dan Aykroyd, Ernie Hudson, Bill Murray, Sigourney Weaver, and Annie Potts reprising their roles as the original films’ versions of Egon Spengler and other heritage characters, the film also featured cameos by the late Harold Ramis. Grace’s casual disclosure of her involvement in the project is quite hopeful, even if we still have over a year to wait for the sequel to Ghostbusters: Afterlife, since the picture is not scheduled for release until December 2023. With the start of principal photography approaching, we should be hearing from more of the actors and actresses shortly.
