Black Panther: Wakanda Forever is getting closer to its release, which means fans won’t have to wait much longer to return to the country of Wakanda. The campaign is picking up speed, so we’re getting a look at both returning and brand-new heroes. Marvel Studios has released a new teaser that features extensive footage of antihero Namor the Submariner and his partner, Riri Williams, called the Iron Heart. Without its leader, Wakanda needs all the help it can get, and Ironheart, played by Dominique Thorne, is the newest addition to the team. She can be seen in the new video putting together her iron suit, flying in it while yelling “let’s go!” with excitement, and sneaking up on some opponents from behind on a crowded road.
Previous previews showed her smashing the metal in a very Tony Stark–esque fashion, evoking the very famous sequence from the first Robert Downey Jr.–led Iron Man movie, and her excitement for taking flight in the latest teaser seems to mirror Tony’s. The teaser for Wakanda Forever hints that Williams, an MIT student, would use the arc reactor to fuel an Iron Suit that can compete with Iron Man’s. She carries on Iron Man’s legacy in more ways than one. Given that she already has her own suit, she will be able to play a pivotal role in the film adaptation of Don Cheadle’s Armor Wars.
In the future film, Iron Heart will side with Shuri, M’Baku’ Okoye, and Queen Ramonda as they defend Wakanda from the likes of Namor the Submariner and others. As the afro-futuristic kingdom encounters new enemies, forges ahead, and seeks a new Black Panther, the film will delve deeply into the culture and mythos of this fascinating place. All of the other main cast members from the first film, including Angela Bassett as Queen Ramonda, Letitia Wright as Shuri, Winston Duke as M’Baku, Danai Gurira as Okoye and the Dora Milaje, Lupita Nyong’o as Nakia, Martin Freeman as Everett Ross, and Tenoch Huerta as Namor, king of Talokan, will be back for this one as well.
Alex Livinalli, Mabel Cadena, Florence Kasumba, and Michaela Coel all have roles in the film. In addition to directing and co-writing the film alongside Joe Robert Cole, Ryan Coogler is also involved in the project as a writer. The highly anticipated sequel to Black Panther, Wakanda Forever, will be released on November 11.
