There are many courageous warriors and great brains in the Second Age of Middle-earth. Perhaps no Elven smith is more talented than Lord Celebrimbor, ruler of the Eregion region (Charles Edwards). Peter Jackson’s prologue to his Lord of the Rings trilogy featured the crafting of the strong rings seen in The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power. The prologue established the rings’ reality but did not identify who made them. Celebrimbor planned the creation of both the elven and lesser rings, with assistance from Annatar, the undiscovered evil lord Sauron. Edwards describes the motivation that drove Celebrimbor to create these rings of power. J.R.R. Tolkien’s legendarium has the elf Celebrimbor, Prince of the oldor and Lord of Eregion.
Celebrimbor was the son of Curufin and the grandson of Fanor, making him a prince of royal blood, but he lacked his ancestors’ hunger for power. He is revealed to be High King Gil-(Benjamin galad’s Walker) trusted advisor, and together they would influence Middle-history earth for centuries after their deaths. Elrond (Robert Aramayo) introduces Celebrimbor to us in the second episode, Adrift, calling him “the finest of elf smiths.” Naturally gifted as all elves are, he must be special to be called the “greatest”; after all, he is Fanor’s grandchild. Only a great forge, one that can aid in the production of the mighty rings, can be the reason for this gathering. What Celebrimbor is aiming to construct is a haven of peace, where all races might co-exist,” Edwards tells us, providing a glimpse into the master smith’s ultimate goal. There are many different kinds of people living in Middle-earth, and they tend to be wary of one another.
The motivation behind Celebrimbor’s desire to solve this is admirable. Celebrimbor also comes out as almost apologetic, as though he suffers some shame for the deeds of his ancestors. He tells Elrond that “our species brought to battle on these shores” a very long time ago. But I hope to embellish them with attractiveness. Edwards elaborates by saying that Celebrimbor hopes to serve as a model for the kind of civilization he believed was attainable under the dominion of other races by making Eregion, the elf kingdom of smiths over which he rules, “a place of perfection.”
In the video, Elrond says that he can’t believe so much beauty can come from just one thing. Fans will recall that even while the One Ring is quite little, it will be accountable not for tranquilly but for the tremendous disorder, and this sets a tone of dread. For his younger relative, the older elf gives some words of advice: “real creation involves sacrifice.”
Season 6, episode 6 of Rings of Power will be released on October 7.
